  • Nearly-wild camping site in the grounds of a 400-year-old manor house
  • Five minutes' drive from Bradford on Avon; 20 minutes from Bath
  • Firepits at every pitch; 10 minutes' walk from a marina and bar
Sleeping in the grounds of a 400-year-old manor house and getting up to canalside explores sounds rather relaxing, doesn't it? At Longscroft Manor, a 1.25-acre site in scenic west Wiltshire, you can do just that. This site's grounds are both well-kept (particularly around the manor house) and wild (in the main pitch area). If you're the kind that goes in for simpler stays, this site is likely to be a great fit: there's very little faff at Longscroft Manor: this is a nearly-wild, back to basics site with off-grid spacious pitches with gorgeous country views (please note there are no toilets or showers, and follow leave-no-trace principles by taking any rubbish away with you). Every pitch at this relaxing site has a firepit where you can light up a fire and get cooking in the evening (bring your own wood or buy on site). A bar is on hand at Bradford on Avon Marina (10 minutes on foot) if you fancy a nightcap. Bradford on Avon (five minutes' drive) is a kooky little town with many sites of architectural interest (like the splendid 14th-century Tithe Barn) as well as independent shops and cafés. For lunch or a snack with a 17th-century twist, try Mr Salvat's Coffee Room, where meals are dished up by staff in period costume. Coming here without a car? Both Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon railway stations are a 25-minute walk away from site.
