  • Peaceful family-friendly site with views over Salisbury Plain
  • Half-hour drive to Longleat Safari Park; 40 minutes to Bath
  • Farm produce for sale on site; half a mile from the A361
With stunning views over Salisbury Plain, Little Thornham Holidays is a peaceful site on a small farm in the Wiltshire countryside. Just half a mile from the A361, its location is relatively easy to access but still mercifully far away from traffic noise. Wood is available to buy from the farm, along with a whole range of fresh produce, including sausages and eggs from the farm. Other bits can be picked up from the shops in Melksham, 10 minutes' drive away. If you fancy a break from cooking, take a walk instead to one of the nearby pubs – there’s one 15 minutes away (with lovely food, a garden and a play area) or another 20 minutes away by the Kennet and Avon Canal. This is also the place for a good long waterside walk or a bit of fishing (just make sure to bring the relevant licence with you). There’s also plenty of open space for kids (and grownups too…) to play games in the field before mealtimes.

What customers say

This glamping site is highly recommended for its comfortable, well-equipped, and spotless tents. Guests consistently praise the incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful owners. The peaceful, family-friendly location offers beautiful views, farm animals, and ample space for children. While some noted road noise and the nature of compost toilets, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many visitors expressing a desire to return.

Liked Well equipped with all crockery and kitchen equipment, comfortable double bed and futons. Friendly staff and options to buy farm produce, good communication. Separate grassy area for children to play games and football goals, still within view of glamping tents.

Liked We loved our stay here. The glamping tent was clean and spacious and contained all of the equipment you could possibly need! The hosts were very responsive and helpful and the farm itself is gorgeous!

Disliked The compost toilet was a little unpleasant in the heat!
You can hear the road from the tent, but it's quiet in the night...

From the manager: Thank you for staying with. It does mention we have compost toilets on our ad. I'm sorry about the road noise. We are half a mile from the road so shouldn't really hear it.

Local attractions

The nearby Kennet and Avon Canal is a good place to go for a walk or some fishing; a favourite spot is Caen Hill Locks (five minutes’ drive) where a flight of 29 locks rises around 70 metres – an impressive feat of engineering and an equally impressive view for visitors. Another excellent sight to check out nearby is the Westbury White Horse (20 minutes), a 50-metre figure carved into the hillside. For real-life animals, take yourselves instead to meet the farm animals at Fairfield Animal Centre (20 minutes) or take a drive among the exotic species living at Longleat Safari Park (half an hour). Both make great days out for families; meanwhile, those travelling without kids may like to take a tour of Wadworth Brewery Visitor Centre (10 minutes). There’s history aplenty around here too – maybe you’d like to wander around the Arts and Crafts-style house and garden at National Trust – Great Chalfield Manor (15 minutes) or the Grade I listed garden at Iford Manor (25 minutes). The Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum (20 minutes) has heritage of a different variety, or you could spend a day exploring the streets of Bath (40 minutes).
