  • Glamping in 40 acres of a family-run farm in the Wiltshire countryside
  • Westonbirt Arboretum 15 minutes' drive; Bath city centre 40 minutes
  • Gorgeous rural views 15 minutes' walk from Malmesbury town centre
The Weaver family have been living at Wiltshire’s Whychurch Farm since 1899 – and even a quick look at the pics should give you a few clues as to why they’d want to hang around in the same spot for such a long time. What was once a dairy and beef farm has now diversified to house a lovely glamping site, set in the fenced-off top corner of a 40-acre field called The Worthies. Although the farm doesn’t have its own cattle any more, a local farmer grazes his cows on the fields – so you’ll be able to watch them going about their lives while you’re sitting out soaking up the views and fresh air (and you might catch a glimpse of the roe deer that live here too…) The countryside atmosphere is obviously a huge draw for this place – but in fact, so is the proximity of handy town amenities. Despite the thoroughly rural views, it’s only a short 15-minute stroll to Malmesbury town centre for shops, pubs and places to eat. There’s easy access to the M4 from here too, so journeys in and out are straightforward (as are day trips to places like Bath, Westonbirt Arboretum and the Cotswolds). Beds are provided in all the units, but please note you’ll need to bring your own bedding and towels along. Sensor lights are set up all around the site to help you find your way, but it’s a good idea to pack a torch anyway – and you’re welcome to bring a barbecue or firepit too (although you’ll not be able tot use them on windy days because of the fire risk posed by nearby straw and hay barns).

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Very friendly welcome. We hadn't realised we would have to drive over wet grass to get to the gravel pitch. But the owner was very accommodating letting us park alongside the pitches. Lovely view of Malmesbury Abbey and the cows in the field. Nice little wash up and shower/ toilet facility. Very good VFM.

Disliked: Not a complaint or the owners fault but perhaps a sign no dogs in the wash up area. While we were there some people took their labrador in. It is not really big enough and it isn't pleasant trying to wash up around a big dog.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely little site on a working farm with clean facilities. Little kitchen area next to loo/shower was a nice bonus. Only a short distance to the beautiful village of Malmesbury. Lots of places to eat/drink. Dog friendly pubs.

Disliked: Only one toilet/shower which could be a problem when busy. Spotlessly clean though.

Worthies Wagon shepherd's hut (four person)

Liked: Lovely location and site. Wagon was well kitted out and comfortable. Host was very nice and very accommodating to our group and allowed a tent and caravan to stay next to our wagon and pod so we could all stay together.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Small campsite on a working farm. The indoor washing-up area also had a kettle, toaster and fridge available to use which was a nice touch. The facilities were kept clean. It's a great location for walking into Malmesbury and a peaceful site. Great views of Malmesbury Abbey and the cows were lovely to watch.

Disliked: Only one shower and toilet were available, which wasn't a problem when the site was relatively empty but was a bit crowded when more people were around. The shower was a bit temperamental but fine once you got the hang of it. There is noise from the nearby A road, which might affect you if you're in a tent. There's an electric fence running along part of the campsite, which you should be aware of if travelling with small children.
