Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Lovely friendly owner who welcomed us with a smile and a chat. Composting toilets were kept clean and well stocked. The area was lovely and peaceful with a pub in the village a 5 min walk away. Drinking water tap on site.

Disliked No washing up area or showers but we expected this so wasn’t a problem.

Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked A favourite site of mine. Pitch where you like and firepits allowed and are dotted around the field. Logs available to buy. Loads of open space.
Compost loos have always been clean.
Nice pub a short walk away.

Disliked Not really dislikes, but be aware:
Internet and mobile signal hit and miss so check before choosing a pitch. Also no showers so pack the wep wipes!

Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked This campsite is not luxurious in anyway BUT it’s extremely laid & it’s not run with millions of rules. Which we love.
They charge per person, so you’re not limited within a small pitch.
The fields are huge, and you pitch where you like, so there’s a ton of space between other campers.
We went on a super hot bank holiday weekend, and it still wasn’t crowded.
So many campsites are soo strict & have so many rules to follow- which I’m sure suit some campers- but this campsite is so chilled. They don’t even have a check out time!!
The kids were able to run around the fields and play games. One of our dogs can be quite hard work in busy settings; but he was sooo chilled the whole time as it was spacious.
We will certainly be back when we’re back in Somerset!

Disliked The only thing that was not a highlight, was the sawdust toilets. But then it does suit the rustic vibes of the campsite.

What customers say

This is a relaxed, basic, and friendly campsite with large open fields, offering plenty of space and the freedom to choose pitches. Composting toilets are consistently reported as clean and well-maintained. Guests appreciate the value for money, peace and quiet, and the beautiful natural surroundings. A local pub is within a short walking distance. Some visitors noted potential for noise from other groups, occasional uneven ground, and a lack of showers and washing-up facilities, though these are often expected at this type of site.

Liked I love the simplicity, the value for money which makes it accessible for folk who struggle financially. I love the relaxed atmosphere in terms of no check in or check out times. The setting in the mendips is so beautiful I am starting to become a regular.

limited phone signal which is a bonus!

Disliked If I could change one thing It would be that there is a designated area for either solo campers or couples, as a solo camper with no children I really value peace and quiet so having children/groups pitch up next to you shouting/music playing that does undo some of the relaxation element so a quiet area would be ideal

Liked Basically on the West Mendip Way - fantastic views of the Somerset levels just a short walk away. Just up the road from a very lovely pub with a good beer garden.

Campsite itself is very low key - no formal check-in or check-out times, which was very handy. Basically just two fields with some water taps, composting toilets and some benches. Cheap.

When I arrived the guy helpfully pointed out where the noisy people were staying.

Disliked Only the problems of any campsite - a few people playing their music really loudly.

Local attractions

Given the proximity of Bath and Wells, there’s an obvious temptation to regale your companions with choice one-liners from Blackadder; but pause for breath and you’ll discover that both have more celebrated charms than the baby-eating bishop. Bath probably needs less of an introduction: think Roman baths, Georgian grandeur, Jane Austen, rugby and culture aplenty; while Wells, which holds the accolade of England’s smallest city, is a medieval gem with a thirteenth-century cathedral, a moated bishop’s palace, and a lively twice-weekly market. Also highly recommended is a trip to the spectacular Cheddar Gorge, which offers something for all ages: fabulous views; brilliant caving and rock climbing; walks up Jacob’s Ladder; open-top bus tours; a clutch of family attractions; eerie stalactite caverns; and, of course, more cheese than you can shake a stick at. Keen walkers will be delighted by the proximity of the Mendips (Ebborways Farm is close to the West Mendip Way, which runs to the Ebbor Gorge nature reserve); or, for those who prefer life on four wheels, there are loads of fascinating places an easy drive away: atmospheric Glastonbury, the colossal caves and family attractions at Wookey Hole, the vibrant maritime city of Bristol, the fantastic safari and adventure park at Longleat, and the sandy beaches of Weston-super-Mare. Finally, should you feel the need to splash a bit of cash, there are more than 90 outlet shops at the Clarks Village centre, in the nearby village of Street.
