- Small adults-only site five minutes' drive from Wimbleball Lake
- Wildlife haven on the edge of Exmoor National Park
- Modern amenities including toilets, showers and shop
Remote, rural, peaceful and just lovely are the boxes you'll tick at Lowtrow Cross Caravan and Camping Park, a small and friendly place close to Wimbleball Lake on the Somerset and Devon borders and on the edge of the spectacular Exmoor National Park.
Set over four acres in an area of spectacular scenery on the Somerset and Devon borders, Lowtrow is an adults-only site set up for guests to have restful and serene stays in a remote setting with easy access to Somerset, Devon and Westcountry attractions.
Miles of uncrowded walking and cycling trails are easy to access from here, along with fishing, sailing, canoeing and horse riding: if you like to hunt on your outdoor adventures, a good stash of geocaches are around Wimbleball Lake and nearby Haddon Hill.
If you aim to take things a mite easier while on your peaceful break, Lowtrow is also in a wildlife and birdwatching haven, with feathered species from woodpecker to goldfinch nesting, feeding and flitting around the site.
Sunsets? All sorted among this spectacular scenery – and there's more sky gazing when the sun goes down, as this part of Somerset is prime stargazing territory. (Nearby Exmoor was the first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe too.)
Friendly owners Anne and Allen live on site and are rightly proud of their surroundings: they'll usually be out and about keeping the grounds and facilities tiptop, so give them a shout if you need any help or advice.
As a small site, Lowtrow's facilities are in proportion to its size, so Anne and Allen ask that guests please don’t expect a supermarket, bar or miles of dog walk, but point out everything is more than adequate for the number of visitors expected at any time. As all is peacefully set six miles from the nearest town, there's a small shop on site selling essentials and local produce.
Barbecues are allowed on site, but if you yearn for a break from slaving over the frying pan, the inn adjacent to the site serves meals as well as local beer and cider, and is ready to welcome guests and well-behaved dogs.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
