General

  • Small and peaceful site in the scenic Blackdown Hills
  • Spacious pitches on the edge of woodland six miles from Taunton
  • Local pub within 50 metres and several more within easy reach

It's a simple couple of minutes' amble (or totter) to (or back from) the pub local to Holly Bush Park in the Blackdown Hills, but that's not even the most mighty fine part of this small and secluded site.

This peaceful place's setting six miles south of Taunton is also a teeny drive from the border with Devon, among countryside walks, Forestry Commission woods and yet more country pubs, and all in a wildlife haven and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If it's sands and dinos you seek, Lyme Regis, Charmouth and the spectacular Jurassic Coast are all within 35 minutes; closer to home, the site is directly opposite woodland; golf, horse riding and fishing are within a couple of miles, and two sports centres are under five miles away.

Although it's a small site, Holly Bush is acclaimed for its excellent and well-kept facilities and its overall setup, laid out over two and a half acres with green space aplenty for kids – and their grownups – to play. The amenities block has separate ladies' and gents' shower areas, free hot water, toilets, a washing-up area and a laundry room.

Calor gas is available to buy on site.

Main entrance difficult to find at night

From the manager...

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. It appears your expectations were not met in this instance and I can only apologise that you found the site difficult to find. We are, however, in a very rural location and with no street lighting I can understand how it may have been difficult for you especially since you arrived very late.

This was our "maiden voyage" in our recently purchased motorhome.Arrived at the well tended, clean, well laid out site, reported to Reception.Lovely greeting, given helpful leaflet of local information.Parked up,hooked up and enjoyed the sunshine. Our dog,Tilly was taken on a lovely walk in adjoining field.Next day awoke to a brand new day,met one of the owners who had time for a chat.
All the facilities clean and well signed. Will definately stay again and would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful stay.

Lovely site, plenty of dog walking, toilet block very clean. Owners were very helpful.

    Disliked:

road very noisy and busy. When we arrived it was difficult to manoeuvre as there was only one entrance and exit point. The pitch we where on would have been awkward to put an awning up as it was quite small and we would have had a problem with parking the car.

Road can be busy and fast vehicles. No footpath to pub. Council has little/no duty of care in the safety of tourists using pub/caravan site ie no speed restrictions / signs /speed humps etc.

A very small site with good pitches. We were welcomed by the owner who was very friendly and helpful. We only stayed one night but it had everything we needed. The amenities were very dated but very clean and I know the owner has plans to upgrade them over time. I chose this site because it was next to a pub so we could go and eat unfortunately the pub does not open on a Tuesday! But all was not lost we rang the pub in the next village and they were happy for us to park the motorhome in their car park and we had a lovely meal. So a good site with access to good pubs.

Everything about this site is great - honestly.
The family team of three were really friendly and helpful.
The site is quiet and beautifully kept. The showers, wash basins, and toilets are excellent - modern, spotlessly clean and with unlimited hot water (no need for tokens or anything).
We’re not exactly hardened wild-campers. Just a family with tent and car on way through to Cornwall. Stayed with my two teenage lads and even they were impressed (high praise indeed). Holly Bush Park achieved the ultimate accolade when I asked my lads how the WiFi was and they replied “yeah, it’s pretty good actually.” Wow.
They’re very dog-friendly (Holly Bush, not my boys), and there’s even a hose station for washing your muddy dogs if that’s your thing. We used it to wash our plates and cutlery.
There’s a reception office next to the shower blocks and they have a handout sheet with top tips, suggestions for local pubs and the all-important WiFi password.
Had a good meal and great glass of local cider at the nearish Lamb and Flag pub which again was very family-friendly.
It’s an unequivocal, unreserved, ten out of ten for us, and Holly Bush Park will definitely be our first choice in future for campsites in the Taunton area.
Thanks Holly Bush Park - great start to our holiday.
    Simon

Local attractions

This is a stunning setting, metres from woodland, walks and country pubs, and within easy driving distance of activities and attractions over Somerset, Devon and Dorset. Playing fields and parks are close by.

The coasts of three counties are all handy for day trips: at Somerset, have a day at Weston-super-Mare or Minehead, both under an hour away; at Devon, make for Seaton and Dawlish, 35 and 55 minutes' drive respectively, and at Dorset, dig into the attractions of the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis, Bridport and West Bay, all within 45 minutes.

For local walks and dog walks around the region's woodland and the Blackdown Hills of Outstanding Natural Beauty, try the two reservoirs and the nature reserve of Otterford Lakes, five minutes' drive from the site, where anglers can also cast off for wild brown trout. Or have an urban wander around Somerset's towns and cities such as Wellington (15 minutes), Exeter (45 minutes) and Glastonbury, just under an hour away.
