  • Peaceful siteover two and a half acres in the scenic Blackdown Hills
  • Spacious pitches on the edge of woodland six miles from Taunton
  • Local pub within 50 metres and several more within easy reach
It's a simple couple of minutes' amble (or totter) to (or back from) the pub local to Holly Bush Park in the Blackdown Hills, but that's not even the most mighty fine part of this small and secluded site... This peaceful place's setting six miles south of Taunton is also a teeny drive from the border with Devon, among countryside walks, Forestry Commission woods and yet more country pubs, and all in a wildlife haven and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If it's sands and dinos you seek, Lyme Regis, Charmouth and the spectacular Jurassic Coast are all within 35 minutes; closer to home, the site is directly opposite woodland; golf, horse riding and fishing are within a couple of miles, and two sports centres are under five miles away. Although it's a small site, Holly Bush is acclaimed for its excellent and well-kept facilities and its overall setup, laid out over two and a half acres with green space aplenty for kids – and their grownups – to play. The amenities block has separate ladies' and gents' shower areas, free hot water, toilets, a washing-up area and a laundry room. Calor gas is available to buy on site.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, friendly campsite with clean facilities, praised for its peaceful atmosphere and convenient location near a pub serving good food. Many guests found it ideal for stopovers and appreciated the helpful staff and dog-walking areas. While most reviewers enjoyed their stay, some noted dated facilities and intermittent Wi-Fi. A few recent reviews mentioned a shift towards more permanent residents and concerns about overflowing bins, although manager replies suggest improvements are being made.

Lower Field non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Toilet facilities were clean and fresh, location was good with proximity to good walks. Dog exercise field was good. Socket to charge phones.

Disliked Half the pitch was mud and there was no room elsewhere for the tent which I had paid extra for. Dirt got in the van when it was perfectly dry elsewhere. Reception was offhand though eventually helpful. No wifi info provided. Only basic facilities.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback – we’re really pleased you enjoyed the location, walks, and our facilities, especially the dog exercise field.

We’re sorry to hear that part of your pitch was muddy. This was due to an awning having just been removed from the pitch prior to your arrival, which can leave the ground soft, particularly with recent weather conditions. Had this been raised during your stay, we would have happily looked at alternative options with you where possible.

We’d also like to clarify that there are plenty of grass areas around each pitch suitable for pup tents, so there should have been space available nearby. If you’d spoken to us at the time, we would have gladly helped you find the best setup.

WiFi is not currently available on site, and this is clearly stated in our pitch information so guests know what to expect before arrival.

We’re also sorry if you felt reception was offhand, as this certainly wasn’t our intention. We always aim to be friendly, approachable, and helpful, and we’re glad we were able to assist you.

We do appreciate your feedback and will continue working to improve wherever we can.

Lower Field non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Well laid out, friendly welcome, all services available, quiet and secure

Disliked I couldn't get 4G, but the receptionist and the guardian both 'lent' me their wifi so I could connect which was very kind
When I was there the shower doors had swollen with all the rain so I couldn't use them, but otherwise all good

Local attractions

This is a stunning setting, metres from woodland, walks and country pubs, and within easy driving distance of activities and attractions over Somerset, Devon and Dorset. Playing fields and parks are close by. The coasts of three counties are all handy for day trips: at Somerset, have a day at Weston-super-Mare or Minehead, both under an hour away; at Devon, make for Seaton and Dawlish, 35 and 55 minutes' drive respectively, and at Dorset, dig into the attractions of the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis, Bridport and West Bay, all within 45 minutes. For local walks and dog walks around the region's woodland and the Blackdown Hills of Outstanding Natural Beauty, try the two reservoirs and the nature reserve of Otterford Lakes, five minutes' drive from the site, where anglers can also cast off for wild brown trout. Or have an urban wander around Somerset's towns and cities such as Wellington (15 minutes), Exeter (45 minutes) and Glastonbury, just under an hour away.
