  • Spacious and bright canvas accommodation in peaceful west Somerset
  • A 15-minute drive from Taunton and the edge of the Quantock Hills
  • In the grounds of a family-friendly pub; five minutes' walk to a river
Glamping in the grounds of a country pub – what better way to celebrate summer, eh? See for yourself with a trip to Camp Wild Hare at The Allerford Inn, a family-friendly site on a green west Somerset field in the grounds of a popular pub. This place at the edge of the Quantock Hills had a major makeover in 2020, so its bars, dining rooms, snug and decked-out beer garden are all very pleasant places to be when you’re not basking in a fully furnished bell tent. But when you are? Each roomy canvas unit comes with creature comforts like metal-framed beds, memory-foam mattresses, comfy duvets and pillows, cotton linen and handmade Indian throws. Towels are provided, showers are shared, and there’s a socially distanced Pamper Tent with hairdryers and straighteners to tame your locks ready for dinner. And that brings us neatly to meals… Choose between bushtucker cookouts on your barbecue, fine dining at the pub (from Wednesdays to Sundays – the Sunday carvery is particularly recommended) or something in between. The local butcher will deliver barbecue kits directly to your tent on Mondays (hire cutlery and plates and the helpful site staff will sort the washing up). Breakfast is available too, but booking ahead is required. Indoor and outdoor seating plus a firepit are just outside each tent and sociable sorts can head to the communal area and settle in on the picnic benches under festival-style festoon lighting. The site is a five-minute stroll from the River Tone and a footpath running along its banks for several miles, all the way to the outskirts of Taunton. Taunton town centre is easily accessed by road as well (15 minutes' drive), as are the viewpoints and valleys of the Quantock Hills (15 minutes). Tents also have a private toilet and power supply.
