  • Touring pitches next to a family pub in Lydford-on-Fosse, Somerset
  • A 25-minute drive to Glastonbury, half an hour to Wookey Hole Caves
  • Pub serves lunch and dinner and hosts live-music events
After a touring site right next to a family-friendly pub in Somerset? Look no further than the friendly and quiet The Cross Keys Inn, which makes a handy base for visiting Glastonbury (25 minutes’ drive) if you’re needing a base for the famous music festival. The pub is in the Somerset village of Lydford-on-Fosse, between Yeovil (20 minutes) and Glastonbury. It has two bars, an open fire and a wifi connection, and serves lunches and dinners (please call to book in advance) as well as real Somerset ales and ciders. Live-music events are occasionally hosted in the function room, which opens out onto the beer garden. The pitches are a short distance from the pub, so although there may be more noise than usual during live events, staff are more than happy to allocate a quieter pitch for you on request. Facilities on the camping field include drinking water, a chemical disposal point, a recycling area, loos and showers. When you’re off to explore the many highlights of Somerset and the south-west, the main A303 is a handy three-minute drive away.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Nice and quiet flat site with spacious pitches. 2 excellent showers, however only 1 toilet and urinal. Not an issue for us as site wasn't too busy. Dark skies made a clear night special. Behind a lovely pub with enclosed beer garden and top notch pizzas. Good range of beers and ciders.

Local attractions

As well as being handy for Glastonbury (25 minutes’ drive), the site is close to the teeny city of Wells and the dramatic limestone formations at Wookey Hole Caves (both half an hour). Ilchester’s Fleet Air Arm Museum (15 minutes) has a huge collection of military and civilian craft, while there are hundreds of cars and motorbikes on display at the Haynes International Motor Museum (10 minutes) as well as lots of activities for kids. Further afield, Bath (55 minutes) is a handsome Georgian city with plenty to keep visitors busy for the day. It’s home to the spectacular Roman Baths complex, an abbey with jewel-coloured stained-glass windows and a rare treat at Thermae Bath Spa, with city views from its rooftop pool. The Royal Bath and West Showground (15 minutes) has a year-around schedule of events from flea markets to the famed Royal Bath and West Show. Held in late May or early June, this three-day jamboree celebrates the best of British farming and Somerset produce at pop-up food and drink stalls, as well as staging show-jumping competitions and Shire horse parades.
