General

  • Rainbow-coloured bell tents in a pretty cottage garden
  • A quarter of an hour's drive from Glastonbury or Lytes Cary Manor
  • Easy walk to the river Brue; surrounded by fields and apple orchards

Box Cottage Bell Tent is an exclusive-use site in a pretty cottage garden in the Somerset countryside, about five miles from Somerton and Glastonbury.

Getting to this pop-up site involves travelling down a single-track country lane to reach your rainbow-coloured bell tent, which has plenty of space inside and out for a relaxed family holiday.

There is a lovely outdoor area next to the tent with a chunky wooden table and six chairs all set up for alfresco dining. There is also a handy area for cooking, plus a firepit to keep you warm after sundown in the evening. This is set up as a ‘rough and ready’ experience rather than luxury glamping: facilities stretch to a portable toilet, a privacy tent and two camp showers or one hot shower and one solar shower bag if you'd like some privacy. There is also a portable sink with hot water and a sink with cold water.

From your tent in the hamlet of Silver Street it’s an easy walk to the banks of the river Brue along a route surrounded by apple orchards and fields. There's much to explore further afield too, such as scenic walks on the Somerset Levels, sampling authentic scrumpy cider or stopping to appreciate a meal in one of the area's many country pubs, the nearest of which is half a mile from Box Cottage Bell Tent in Barton St David.

We booked this as a last minute getaway and it was absolutely lovely. The attention to smaller details and the little touches to help kids feel thought of made such a difference. As soon as we walked in, my 3 kids were extra excited to see bubble wants and some toys and books. It made our stay more comfortable because they felt important and it was a treat to have toys that we didn't own.

The actual tent is spacious and beautiful decorated with little tables that were great to share breakfast around and to play a game of chess.

The kids also had access to a playhouse that was prepped with colouring and soft toys and little fairy lights and torches.

Overall a beautiful set up. Clean and accessible. Jo and her daughter were lovely and had a great chat too. I'd highly recommend staying here.

Everything! The bell tent was beautiful and made up with so many lovely little touches like a teddy on the kids beds. All facilities were clean and very well maintained. It was very peaceful and we had the cutest dog and kittens coming to visit us through our stay. We had an amazing and relaxing mini break and Jo was such a lovely host! Will definitely be looking at returning next year!

What a slow coach I am in replying to your review; I'm so busy with preparations for my daughter's wedding on September 3rd! I'm made up that you enjoyed your stay with us so much. It gives me a lot of pleasure to know the kid's had a good time. Thank you for your review. Hope to see you next year.

Jo was a great host just next door. She left us alone but was on hand to offer travel advice and to make sure we had everything we needed (including charging my phone). I have never glamped before and was impressed with the size of the teepee and the beds - everything was also very clean. It was well kitted out with a bbq, gas stove, seating areas, a fire pit, washing up things, a portaloo and even a camp shower. There was also a play house with toys and a kitten which the children loved.

Thank you for your helpful comments. Good to give others an idea of what's on offer. I am glad the children liked the playhouse and the kitten. Glad you like the tent too,

We had a fantastic stay, the tent itself is absolutely beautiful and the interior has been decorated to quite a high standard, really beautiful.
Best of all were all the little touches left just for the children; books, toys, blankets, pillows, toys on their beds, a real home from home experience. The most exciting thing of course was the 2 story Wendy house in the garden packed full of yet more toys! My 3 year old was absolutely thrilled!
There's lots of space for outside seating/dining.
    Really beautiful space.
Quite close to the owners home but it felt very private too.
A lovely dog & cats to stroke too!
Sadly we didn't get to use the solar shower as we didn't get good weather, however, I'm sure we could have boiled the kettle and made do if needed. Porter loo was fine. You might want to bring your own hand soap as there's just a hand sanitizer dispenser in the loo. Drinking water tap close to the tent.
I would highly recommend this site and will be staying again. Friendly and accommodating owner. The photos of the tent really don't do it justice, beautifully clean throughout too! Great value for money.

    Disliked:

The pitch is close to the road, however, it's a very quiet country road, we only heard around 3 cars during the night over our 2 night stay.

From the manager...

Thank you for your appreciative comments. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I like to set up the tent according to who is statying. Your daughter and baby were delightful and a pleasure to have stay in the tent. I know it's not always easy camping with young children, especially when the weather's not great, so try to make the experience enjoyable.

Absolutely fantastic 2 nights spent here. 3 kids aged 6, 8 and 10 and all loved the play house and being outside. We felt very safe as we can shut the gates and the children couldn't wonder off. Absolutely loved the fact it was just our space and free to do what we liked. The tent was beautiful and everything we needed was already there. Toilet and shower area very clean. Couldn't of been better in any way.

    Disliked:

    Nothing to dislike.

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. You were lovely guests. I am so pleased your children enjoyed the play house. My idea to do this started a couple of years ago and it is great that it has come to fruition and guests can enjoy the peace and tranquility rural Somerset offers. I hope the joy of waking up in rainbow colours can be experienced by many more guests.
Thank you. Thank you. Jo
