  • Peaceful family-run park in the middle of Exmoor with coastal views
  • A five-minute walk from Porlock and a 10-minute drive from Minehead
  • Dog-friendly site with exercise area on site and walks nearby
Entertaining the idea of exploring Exmoor during your next escape? Adventure around this protected area covering a sizeable chunk of Somerset’s most stunning countryside and coast from the centrally located Porlock Caravan Park. This sea-view site is a five-minute walk from the pubs, restaurants and shops of pretty Porlock village and close to public transport links landing visitors on the beach at Minehead (10 minutes’ drive). With the South West Coast Path around a mile away, the park is also a brilliant base for a break spent walking, cycling or riding across the scenic trails of Exmoor. Perhaps inspired by the protected area the site sits in, its owners have shown how much they care about conserving local wildlife by adding a bat box, ladybird house, hedgehog box, beehives and a lapwing log to the serene grounds and have tarmacked the well-lit perimeter to keep the atmosphere peaceful for both humans and creatures. Speaking of animals, a separate dog exercise area is available for the pups to play in at this pet-friendly park, plus lots of trails are in the surrounds for them to snuffle along.

Local attractions

Exmoor is one of England’s most peaceful national parks and offers some of the UK’s best stargazing. Adding to these accolades, it’s also home to the nation’s tallest tree and highest cliffs, as well as one of its biggest herds of red deer. Spend your days in the area in search of wild animals – you might be lucky enough to spot the famed Exmoor pony – or dawdle beneath the boughs of trees at Dunkery & Horner Wood National Nature Reserve (15 minutes’ drive). Walks on the coast are also possible as the South West Coast Path is a mile away. While strolling by the seaside, stop off for rests at the beaches enroute: Bossington is a pebbly stretch well worth the 40-minute roam from the park, while Porlock Weir (half an hour’s stroll) gives access to the water from a working harbour edged by shops. A larger selection of boutiques to browse is in Dunster (15 minutes), an Exmoor village towered over by a castle. Travellers will pass the turnoff to Minehead on their way here, where they can jump on the West Somerset Railway heritage train for rides with coastal views.
