  • Orchard glamping retreat with peaceful dog-friendly yurts
  • A 25-minute drive from Glastonbury; 35 minutes from Taunton
  • Cycling, watersports, shops and cafés within walking distance
Combing around for a luxury outdoor escape? A boutique retreat? On a 10-acre smallholding in Somerset, Blossom Orchard is a match. This family-run retreat has peaceful dog-friendly yurts in a truly gorgeous setting. They’re privately positioned in an orchard with over 300 native apple trees, surrounded by wildflower meadows, alpaca paddocks and free-roaming chickens. If that doesn’t sound quite dreamy already, the yurts have their own woodburning stove and firepit (jacket potatoes or toasted burritos anyone?) and access to a shared eco loo. There’s also a communal space, which has a more luxurious shower room, flushing toilet, kitchen and dining area. It’s excellently peaceful around the orchard, but unwinding doesn’t have to take place just on the site. Langport, the local town, is 20 minutes’ walk away and has gorgeous river walks, activities like paddleboarding and kayaking and cafés. Pick up a pair of wheels from the bike hire shop… since this area is part of the Somerset Levels, it’s easy gliding through the local countryside. There are plenty of cycling paths to choose from. You might want to pedal down to Somerton, which is otherwise 10 minutes’ drive away from the site. The market town has a proper selection of foodie venues.

Local attractions

Get into historian mode or hiking mode for Glastonbury (25 minutes’ drive). While it may be known as a huge music festival destination, the town also has an ancient abbey, where King Arthur is buried. Glastonbury Tor has links to King Arthur too and it’s a historical hike indeed, based on top of a hill over the Somerset Levels. Taunton (35 minutes) is thoroughly historic too. Take a look around the Norman castle, then loop back to Yeovil (25 minutes) for entertainment like a country park and theatre. Any guests hoping to catch a glimpse of a few rare feathers will be pleased to find that there are several RSPB nature reserves within driving distance of the site too. Yes, you’ll need your binoculars at the ready for RSPB Greylake (10 minutes) and RSPB Ham Wall (20 minutes). If you’re quite hungry for outdoor activities, just look towards the Quantock Hills (45 minutes). With farmlands, little villages and woods, it’s a scenic hiking or cycling destination.
