All aboard for a special stay in the Somerset countryside… American School Bus Glamping at Petruth Paddocks is sure to be a place you won’t forget in a hurry.
Come along to this site five minutes’ drive from Cheddar and you’ll be stepping into the retro world of the classic American yellow school bus – a Californian import that’s now all refurbished and ready for a smart glamping stay.
Since making the trip across the pond this spacious vehicle (called Long beach) has been kitted out with sleeping space for up to six people, plus all sorts of luxuries including a kitchen area (with gas hob and fridge), a top-quality shower and a flushing toilet. Underfloor heating, an electric blanket and a woodburning stove help to keep things nice and warm at all times, and you’ll have all the Egyptian cotton bedding, duck down duvets and luxury towels you need for a comfortable stay.
An alfresco seating and dining space (with a barbecue) is just outside the bus, which has been parked in a prime spot within a larger campsite. That location means that you’ll also have access to all the main site facilities too, including a play area with various bits of farming paraphernalia for the kids to clamber on (and picnic benches for parents to supervise in comfort).
The site also has a coffee shack that’s just the place for a caffeine hit or other treats including hot chocolate and milkshakes. The surrounding area has plenty of farm shops and supermarkets for barbecue bits and snacks – and if you don’t feel like cooking at the bus, there are several restaurants, pubs and takeaways just over a mile away in Cheddar.

If the word Cheddar doesn’t make you immediately think of cheese, it may well bring to mind the gorge instead – and in fact both are within easy reach, as you can pick up some of the famous produce in the town of Cheddar before heading up to explore Cheddar Gorge and caves (five minutes’ drive).
There’s more excellent geology to see at Wookey Hole and Ebbor Gorge (both 15 minutes), and plenty of lovely landscapes around to accompany walks through the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – the site is just on the edge of this area, so getting out to explore is easy.
For other days out, well… how about a visit to Wells (20 minutes), meeting the animals at Apex Leisure & Wildlife Park (25 minutes) or a ride on the Bath and West Steam Railway (35 minutes)? And of course the coast is half an hour away for beach times in Burnham-on-Sea or Weston-super-Mare…

A 15% non-refundable deposit is payable now. American School Bus Glamping at Petruth Paddocks will debit the balance from your card 4 weeks before arrival, or if the arrival date is sooner than 4 weeks then the balance will be taken immediately.
