Pitch 5

  • Well-maintained campsite edging the Somerset Levels near Bridgwater
  • A 20-minute drive to Glastonbury Tor; half an hour to Burnham-on-Sea
  • Homemade gelato available on select afternoons during high season
With carefully maintained pitches set among flower beds and trees, Thornhills Farm’s camping area is based just outside the village of Othery on the edge of the Somerset Levels. Whether you’re overnighting on the way further down to the West Country or sticking around to explore locally, getting here is easy as the M5 is only 20 minutes’ drive away. Keen to get to know Somerset? You’re in the right place, as hereabouts you’re surrounded by the wetland Levels, plus the Mendip Hills and Quantock Hills Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Historic towns including Taunton and Glastonbury are within easy reach, as is coastal Burnham-on-Sea. Spotless facilities on this family-run holiday park – which spreads over two acres – include a modern shower block, a washing machine and tumble dryer to take care of your holiday clothes, and bottled gas (available for a small charge). And you’ll sleep soundly at night knowing that the electric gates at the entrance to the site are firmly closed for your security. On select Saturdays during the summer months, guests can get their hands on handmade Italian gelato. The site is also dog-friendly, and while there are limited walks from the farm, there are plenty within five minutes' drive. Just remember, the site is in the middle of Somerset, home to a large farming community. The site is next to a working farm, there may be farming noise.

What customers say

A small, well-maintained, and immaculately clean site ideal as a base for exploring. Guests praised the spotless toilet and shower facilities, spacious pitches with hook-ups and water, and good WiFi. While generally quiet, some noted occasional noise from a neighbouring farm, especially in the evenings. The site is well-located for local attractions but not within walking distance of amenities. Ice cream from the on-site hut is a popular addition.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Spacious pitches with plenty of room, amazing warden onsite - nothing is too much trouble. We run a holiday park ourselves so we can appreciate how amazingly kept and lots of work which has gone into this site. Shower facilities were lovely, high powered shower and bonus - they smelt lovely! If we were ever in the area again we would definitely stop here 100/10

Disliked The amount of reviews on the farm noise when it’s clearly stated and not their fault - just saying!

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked A really nice site, quite small with lots of tree screening. We were made very welcome. The toilets and showers are unisex and were spotless. Handy position for the Levels and Glastonbury. Meal very good at King Alfred pub not far away.

Disliked It is on the main road and being straight and flat it was of course a draw for speedsters! But it was quiet at night and not particularly a problem.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Lovely clean site with nice flat pitches; friendly and helpful staff on site. Easy to reach, but quiet; only birdsong to break the silence. good location- for us, a perfect stop-over on our way from the Midlands to Cornwall

Disliked Nothing to dislike

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Pitches generous size. Water and greywaste on pitch. . The pitches are well laid out on a pretty site.
Has plenty amenities, washing machine, dryer, showers and toilets. Maybe at a different time of year, the farm noise might not be there.

Disliked on our night there, the farmer worked his machinery until nearly 1am, the cows made a terrible racket until half twelve and then his dogs were barking after he stopped his machinery. We needed a restful night as we used this stop as a stopover travelling up from Cornwall and had quite a drive the next day.
We didn't need the code as the gate was always open.
The shower was extremely weak and the lights went out half way through shower .
The road noise is terrible. There are no walks for dogs.
It is also quite a way from the M5.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked The pitch was spacious with electric and water. Plenty of information was sent through via email and text, easy to get yourself on your pitch. Toilets and showers were very clean.

Disliked Nothing really to dislike, just be aware there was no drive over grey water facility to empty your Campervan tanks.

Local attractions

Wildlife lovers, start your exploration of Somerset at RSPB Greylake (five minutes’ drive), where you can (hopefully) catch sight of waders and raptors – of the latter, keep an eye out for endangered marsh harriers. Eastfield Nature Reserve (10 minutes) is a grassland reserve that comes alive with butterflies in summer, and the botanists among you can seek out rare orchids too. There’s plenty more for walkers to enjoy: discover the wetland meadows of the Somerset Levels (five minutes) for strolls through reed beds bordering the River Parrett – and then get a bird’s-eye view over the marshes with a hike up Glastonbury Tor (20 minutes), topped by the ruins of 14th-century St Michael’s Church. If you’re feeling the call of bracing sea air, turn north for a dip in the sea off the sandy beach at Burnham-on-Sea (half an hour) or take the kids rock pooling at Kilve Beach (45 minutes). Heading to the south coast, Lyme Regis (an hour) and Charmouth (55 minutes) are the number-one spots to root around on the beach for fossils.
