  • Stays in a shepherd’s hut with stunning views over Priston Mill
  • Under a 10-minute drive to Priston Mill and 20 minutes to Bath centre
  • South-facing garden, furnished patio, barbecue and private bathroom
It’s all about the country life – but a rather refined version of it – at Priston Glamping, where stays are in a traditional handcrafted shepherd’s hut on a family-run farm with first-rate views over pretty Priston Mill and the Somerset scenery. Sold? Then get over to the park and make sure you’re settled in time for sunset – it’s said to be stunning in this part of the world, and is best seen from the cast-iron table and chairs of your private south-facing patio. While you’re outdoors, amp up the atmosphere by lighting the disposable barbecue provided and toasting your complimentary marshmallows. This site certainly doesn’t slump in the snack department – free biscuits are thrown in as well. After watching the sky change colour, retire to your hut with its double bed, electric lighting, heater and power sockets; a kettle, toaster and fridge are also on hand and a private bathroom with a hot shower, flushing toilet and washing-up area is a few metres away. While it’s unlikely you’ll be craving a change of scenery with such spectacular countryside to admire from your comfy perch, walks are to be had straight from the hut (bring your wellies and totter off to the local pub in Priston, half an hour’s stroll away) and it's a 20-minute drive to the centre of Bath for jaunts around the Georgian townhouses. For easy access to this stately city, the Odd Down Park & Ride is less than 10 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

Head into the centre of Bath (20 minutes’ drive) and make a beeline for the grand abbey – climb the 212 steps for stunning views across the city’s rooftops, then meander over to the Royal Crescent for snapshots of the mighty handsome Georgian townhouses. Wondering what puts the ‘spa’ in Bath Spa as you amble along the cobbled streets? Well, that’s the old Roman Baths – they're well worth a visit but not somewhere you can take a dip. For that, a state-of-the-art thermae wellness centre is on hand for drenching yourself in soothing hot water… Dry off and learn about one of the UK’s most famous authors at The Jane Austen Centre, then roam to the river and seek out a tearoom serving up cream and scones overlooking the water; for more vistas, the Bath Skyline walk (a little to the east of the centre) is a six-mile path through meadows, valleys and woodlands with views out across the honey-coloured houses of the city.
