  • Peaceful campsite on a working farm with Somerset and Wiltshire views
  • A 20-minute drive to Longleat, Bath city centre and Bath Skyline walk
  • Large grass pitches with space for kids and dogs to run around
Far-reaching views? A peaceful location on a farm? Easy access to the bright lights of a city? Yes, that’s a full house for Peipards Farm, a no-frills farm site within 20 minutes’ drive of Bath and yet tucked away in the country with views over the undulating hills of Somerset. The massive camping field is well maintained and nicely flat, and from the top of the field you can spy well into neighbouring Wiltshire. Thanks to its size, it’s unlikely you’ll ever feel hemmed in by the next-door tent. In fact, there’s plenty of room for all comers and any four-legged friends, with lots of acreage for dogs – and your kids – to have a play and a bit of a run around. Amenities are pretty minimal – portable toilets, drinking water and refuse facilities – and please note there is no power in the camping field, so bring a torch for getting around after dark. It's also worth noting that access is via a farm track so it's not suitable for sports cars and similar. Open fires are not allowed but barbecues standing off the ground are – you’ll need to bring your own so add it to the packing list. The picture-perfect village of Freshford (five minutes’ drive) has a small shop for basics, as well as a welcoming gastropub if cooking feels like too much hard work.

Local attractions

Historic Bath (20 minutes’ drive) may well be top of the bucket list if you’d like to tour the soaring Gothic-style abbey, see how early Britons took the waters at the fascinating Roman Baths, or spoil yourself with treatments and a dip in the rooftop pool at state-of-the-art Thermae Bath Spa. With museums, galleries, cool shops and pubs on practically every corner, you’ll have no problem whiling away a day (or several) in this lively city. If it’s fresh air you’re longing for, follow the circular Bath Skyline walk (20 minutes) through meadows and woodland overlooking the city. Keen bikers might like to try the Bristol to Bath Cycle Path (half an hour), and you can rent bikes in the city, so there’s no excuse for not having a go. Children behaving and in need of a treat? Take them to meet rescue wolves at The Little Zoo – Wolf Experiences (20 minutes), or spend the day on safari at Longleat, where you can also feed cheeky sea lions from a cruise boat as it sails past a colony of lowland gorillas.

Liked: Easy booking

Disliked: We received a text message just after booking form the owner of the farm said that the campsite was not operating and agreed to refund me. However the refund has never happened. I have messaged him several time, and also called today, but neither answer, nor refund.
