  • Dorset glamping close to the Isle of Purbeck
  • On the edge of Winfrith Newburgh; West Lulworth 10 minutes' drive
  • Street food three times a week in August
Go on, roll up to this Dorset location and pitch up in a style… putting down roots at Purbeck Glamping for a while will open up a whole load of dreamy Dorset locations, including castles, harbours, beaches and countryside. What’s the set-up like? The place is a quiet bell tent site on the edge of the village of Winfrith Newburgh. That means that you’ll be settling down in a well-kept rural landscape. It’s also just the place to try out local street food and get out to the beaches and cliffs of the Jurassic Coast 10 minutes’ drive away. These spacious five-metre tents come with a double bed and two singles and have access to well-maintained shared toilets and showers. Since they’re based in a quiet location close to the village centre, they’re just half a mile from the handy village shop and close to lots of public rights of way for Dorset wanders. The South West Coast Path is also within easy reach and can be joined around three miles to the south of Purbeck Glamping. Firepits are available to hire on site, with street food available three times a week throughout August if you'd rather leave the slicing and dicing to someone else. Other popular dining options in the local area include a pub a mile away to the north or West Lulworth (10 minutes' drive), where there are restaurants, coffee shops and ice cream stands.

Local attractions

Pretend like you’re living in the old days by climbing to the ruins at Corfe Castle (20 minutes’ drive) or looking around the rose garden at Lulworth Castle (10 minutes). You’ll get to live out a 17th-century fantasy at the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy (30 minutes) too, a country house with huge formal gardens. When it comes to natural beauty, there’s an excellent selection of locations around too. Dancing Ledge (30 minutes) requires a short scramble to get there, but the rocky ledge is frequented by cliff jumpers and those who want a dip in the little tidal pool. West Lulworth (10 minutes) is the gateway to Lulworth Cove, Fossil Forest and Durdle Door too. If it’s wildlife you’re wanting to scope out, Abbotsbury Swannery (30 minutes) is home to a colony of nesting swans. See what fish you recognise in the tunnels through the Sea Life Centre Weymouth (20 minutes) too. Another chance to work on your wildlife spotting skills is with a boat trip to Brownsea Island from Poole Harbour (30 minutes).
