Mowing the grass between the lanes of the apple orchards where the pitches are in season

General

  • Adults-only site in an orchard on a cider farm with 3,000 apple trees
  • A 15-minute drive from West Bay beach on the Jurassic Coast
  • Taproom serving champion craft ales and ciders; cider tours and trails

Three cheers for something deliciously different – Dorset Nectar Orchard Campsite is an adults-only park set on an organic orchard home to 3,000 mature cider apple trees a 15-minute drive from the Jurassic Coast’s West Bay beach.

The fruit is harvested from the farm each autumn, so the site operates on a leave-no-trace-ethos. Pitches are widely spaced – guests have 12 metres of room between each one – meaning there’s ample room for snoozing in serene surrounds.

You could also settle down on the numerous benches in the cider garden or bound over to the barbecue area and grill up grub. Raised firepits are available, and there’s wood to purchase for small, safe cooking by your tent.

But the best bit? This delectable destination has a tasting room – selling 13 types of award-winning cider, as well as apple juice, craft beers and apple cider vinegar – and runs tours of the farm and orchard on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Head off on walks on footpaths in the surrounding countryside and by the River Brit whatever day of the week, or potter to the pub about half a mile down the road to fill up on food. For other eats, takeaways deliver to the park and a farm shop is just outside Bridport, a couple of miles away. There are markets in the latter town every Wednesday and Saturday.

The site has a well-maintained, regularly sterilised unisex bathroom with two toilets and a shower (newly installed for 2020).

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Bookings must not consist of more than 2 different households.

Group bookings of 10 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

The bar is open between 14/08 and 30/09.

Touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans with the door built on the left-hand side are not permitted.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

this is a incredible place. Being able to setup in the orchard and choose where was brilliant. I found it to be both peaceful and quiet. the ability to purchase and enjoy the wonderful ciders produced there made this an even more enjoyable stay. This a delightful site and one I cannot recommend highly enough.

Beautiful site that felt private due to the trees. Loved the idea of having your own row where you can go as far up as you like. Very quiet and peaceful. Owners were really friendly and make delicious cider! Even the owners dog was a little love! The owners recommended a local pizza delivery service which was lovely. Looking forward to returning for longer.

    Disliked:

As other reviews have mentioned the 1 combined toilet/shower isn’t ideal but it didn’t really cause any issues for us. Can’t see it being a problem if campers are considerate - this isn’t the place for long showers and blow drys! There is also a portaloo the other side of the site if you need it.

    - The cider was delicious
    - Can have BBQs in the main area with benches
    - Super friendly staff
    - Camping in an orchard, between the tree lines, was pretty unique

    Disliked:

    - They’d only been operating a month when we visited, so this will definitely improve with time, but only one shower that’s in with the only flushing toilet (however there is also a portaloo). But to be fair, I got up early and didn’t have to wait for the shower
