Little Hundreds Campsite: Build a fire

General

  • Family-friendly Dorset site with views over the Tarrant Valley
  • A 10-minute drive from Blandford Forum; half an hour to West Lulworth
  • Set on a working farm, a mile from an independent café and farm shop

Surrounded by tree-lined country lanes and gentle green hills, Little Hundreds Campsite is a quiet campsite deep in rural Dorset. This Tarrant Crawford spot borders Little Hundreds coppice, where there's plenty of leafy shade to escape to on hot summer's days. You can look forward to fantastic views all year round at this rural site: to the south, you have vistas over meadows that roll down towards the Stour river, while to the north the farmland just stretches on and on…

This laidback site has basic facilities like toilets, showers and a washing-up area, as well as handy extras like solar charging points. In addition, this relaxed spot gives you the freedom to pitch your tent wherever you choose and allows campfires in the designated areas. There are also firepits – with wood included – available to hire to help arrange campfire evenings with minimal hassle.

The site is a few minutes' walk from the footpaths that run up and down the Tarrant Valley and is roughly a mile from an independent farm shop and café. The market town of Blandford Forum (10 minutes' drive) is a short drive away if you’re looking for restaurants or a supermarket; it's also accessible via a quiet cycle path that runs along a flat former railway line.

Please note

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Minimum spacing of 2 metres between pitches.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/08 and 31/08.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not be for more than 7 consecutive nights.

Group bookings of 6 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Pretty, quiet location, away from main roads.
    Simple but decent facilities.
Great quality firewood available on site.
    Relaxed and helpful site manager/s.
    Nice smooth pitch.
*Fantastic* food served at The Anchor, Shapwick. I recommend that you drive rather than walk, as road is very narrow with high hedges. Book in advance.

Very peaceful site with lovely countryside views. Staff were so welcoming and friendly. No light pollution at all so we were able to stargaze around the campfire with hot chocolate and marshmallows! Back to basics at it’s best!

Enjoyable new campsite well looked after by the team on site. Hot showers kept very clean, as were the toilets. Some fun hay bales for children to climb around on. Great to have firepits and firewood provided (£). Young children had a really enjoyable time and it made a great base to explore both the local area on bikes and Dorset more widely.

    Disliked:

Not so much dislikes but thoughts to improve the site next year - two shelves in the showers (one wet and one dry), some recycling facilities and some handwashing facilities by the toilets rather than just hand sanitiser.

A wonderful site in an excellent location. Ideal for exploring the lovely countryside or the coast. Pitches are flat and the field's in good condition. The loos are clean and there's a cold water tap for water and washing-up. We were met by Jack who was very helpful and a good source of information for local walks etc. Really enjoyed our short stay here but will come back.

Signage to the site from the Crawford Bridge would help and maybe making the signs a little bigger, if allowed.

Everything: the location, the field, the views, the friendly staff, the fire pit, the option to experience the three friendly sheep, how clean it was - although very basic.

Took a walk down to Keynestone Mill which has a cafe, is full of fragrant flowers and makes scents. They host jazz and outdoor film on some nights.

    We will return.. with friends!

    Thank you.
