  • Peaceful family-run site in Dorset 10 minutes’ drive from Poole
  • A 20-minute drive from the Jurassic coast; 40 minutes from New Forest
  • Pub within walking distance; more places to eat in the local village
From paddling along Poole harbour on a paddleboard to touring the Jurassic coast, there’s much to muck into from Bluebell Meadow Campsite. The peaceful place is 10 minutes’ drive from Poole and 20 minutes from the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (home to the chalk Old Harry Rocks, half an hour’s drive, if that’s top of your list). So, you’ll be well-based to jam-pack your hiatus full of activities on Dorset’s beaches or the surrounding countryside. Touch down in the pocket of farmland surrounded by trees… this family-run site has been set up by avid campers and therefore, attention has been paid to the clean facilities. There are plenty of friendly faces around to point you in the direction of the golf course, 20 minutes’ walk away, or cycling and hiking ways throughout the countryside. Perhaps you might be thinking of visiting the New Forest National Park (40 minutes’ drive) for its trails, gardens, museums and wildlife… the Isle of Purbeck (25 minutes’ drive) for its coastal scenery, wetlands, forestry and farmlands… the scenic Arne (25 minutes) at the northern end of the isle… or Poole Harbour (25 minutes’ drive) for its canoeing, kitesurfing and paddleboarding activities. As for those of you after some good pub grub, there are several in Lytchett Minster and Upton (five minutes’ drive for a rather pretty village with a minster), with the closest a 25-minute walk away. And for a tasty treat or two, there’s also a popular café five minutes’ drive away.

Meadow electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful campsite, super friendly staff, good toilet/shower/wash up facilities, provided soap and scrubbers - great as I forgot mine! Level pitches and lovely shady area with picnic benches.

Disliked: Road noise was too loud for us, might be OK if your used to living by a road. Wash up is by door to mens loos.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review. Sorry about the road noise, we have done a lot of shrub planting to help with this but it will take time to grow. With regards to the washup station being next to the men's WC this is something we cannot do anything about due to the drainage and plumbing positions. We have notes on the main door of the WC requesting it be closed when leaving. Sorry to hear that you will not be staying again.

if they had a good look at those showers I would stay there again 100%

Meadow electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lee who runs the site was very welcoming and accommodating. The site was spotless and very well layed out.

Disliked: The only thing that drops it to a 4* instead of a 5* are the showers sloughs very clean and tidy and kept well at all times. The water pressure was not great and I’m not sure if it was me but the water kept going from cold to hot and back to cold again.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review. Sorry to hear you had trouble with the showers, unfortunately we were very busy over the bank holiday weekend, which meant the wc/showers were in constant use. We did explain that we are in a low water pressure area, as we are a farm site, and that all the showers are electric. We also have further instructions in each of the shower rooms to help make sure you get the best out of them. Hope to see you again.

Bluebell fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Spacious, level pitches on this leafy site surrounded by trees. Toilets and showers spotless. Owner friendly and informative.

Disliked: There is noise from the busy road nearby but it is much quieter later on and overnight.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review. Sorry about the road noise, but there is not much we can do about it, but as you state after the rush hour it becomes much quieter. We have also done a lot of shrub planting to help with this but it will take time to grow. Hope to see you again soon.

Bluebell fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Friendly owner, given information leaflet on local attractions. Well kept site. Drinking water, grey waste drainage on our pitch. Individual gravel area to park alongside our own grassy area. Picnic benches in shady area. Beautiful trees and birdsong! Very clean facilities, big showers with benches far enough away to keep belongings dry.

Disliked: Poor vision on exit of site onto road with sometimes fast moving traffic.(obviously something not under the owners’ control!)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much for your positive review, its great to hear that you enjoyed our campsite. Sorry about the road traffic, as you say it's something we cannot control, but we have cut the verges back to increase visibility to help improve this.

Liked: We had a fantastic weekend at Bluebell Meadows Campsite. It was very peaceful and the staff was very helpful. The facilities were very clean and the campsite itself was well-kept. There are nice shaded areas for the kids to sit and the campsite is close to a lot of sites to visit. We will certainly visit again.

Local attractions

Beaches, wildlife havens or historical sites first? There are bucket loads of the former, from Bournemouth’s pier and sandy seafront (half an hour’s drive), the three miles of soft sand from South Haven Point to Old Harry Rocks at Studland beach (half an hour) to the shell-shaped Lulworth Cove (half an hour), formed over millions of years … hence the many swimming spots. You’ll get history and the coast in one shot in Swanage (half an hour), a Victorian seaside resort, and Weymouth (40 minutes) too, thanks to its Georgian seafront. History-wise, there’s also the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy (15 minutes), Corfe Castle (15 minutes), literary Dorchester (25 minutes) or the heritage Poole Cockle Trail (10 minutes) around the old town. As for that wildlife spotting, well, top spots include RSPB Arne’s nature reserve (20 minutes), Monkey World’s ape rescue centre (15 minutes) and Brownsea Island (15 minutes’ drive and 35 minutes’ boat ride). There’s a nature reserve (along with beaches and harbour) in Christchurch (35 minutes) too or Upton Country Park (five minutes) for woodlands. To round things off, perhaps you’ll want to fit in Farmer Palmer's Farm Park (10 minutes’ walk), Splashdown's waterpark (15 minutes) too.
