Fairoak Camping is a small family-run site in east Dorset, a mile and a half from Ashley Heath; it’s a handily central location for getting out and about within both Dorset and Hampshire as it’s a 15-minute drive from the New Forest and about 20 minutes from the beaches around Bournemouth and Christchurch. Even closer than either of those are the walks, cycle paths and adventure park at Moors Valley Country Park (15 minutes’ walk) and the local pub, which is an easy three-minute amble away for food and drinks. If you’re keen on self-catering you may find it handy to have a couple of shops within a mile, and a bigger supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away – both are good places to pick up bits for a barbecue back at base. You’ll share this rural site with a small flock of chickens and ducks, so you can also buy eggs on site for a tiptop open-air breakfast. There are trees all around the pitches so there’s plenty of shade and shelter, but please do note that there’s a road by the site so traffic noise can be heard from the pitches. Although this is a back to basics site there is a portable toilet available (but please note there are no showers on site).
