General

  • Award-winning park two miles from Wimborne
  • Direct access to the Castleman Way for walks, cycling and horse riding
  • Pool, bar, family room and play park

Simply smashing: award-winning Merley Court Touring Park two miles from the Dorset town of Wimborne is firmly set up for family days and seaside stays: it's a short drive to Poole and Bournemouth, and is full of facilities for all including an outdoor pool open in summer, a bar and family room serving up lashings of drinks and meals, a shop, a games room and a play park.

Want more? Guests can also use the facilities at Merley Court’s sister site Oakdene seven miles away along the A31, with over 20 on-site activities including a gym (a small charge applies), sauna, steam room and indoor pool. I say.

The park is set in 15 acres of sheltered grassland and woodland, two miles from the market town of Wimborne and a quick drive from the sands of Poole and Bournemouth. It has direct access to the waymarked Castleman Trailway for 16.5 miles of not too strenuous cycling, walking and horse-riding; you can pedal your way to Poole from here or amble along by the riverside.

Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between all spring bank holiday time and early september (subject to weather conditions).

Facilities/activities including the use of facilities at Merley's sister site Oakdene (7 miles away) are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex groups of more than 3 people or mixed adult parties of more than 6 people are not accepted via Pitchup.com.

The actutual site looked beautiful from the entrance and when we drove round on exiting it ,but thats as much as we got to see. We originally booked a grass pitch via pitch-up as it said no hardstandings or gravel pitches available. On going to the actual campsites web page I found they had gravel pitches available so phoned campsite and payed extra for a hardstanding gravel pitch.Friendly helpful staff on the phone.Friendly helpful staff in reception at first.Toilets and showers were fine, hot water and clean.Well stocked shop. Beautiful pitches except ours.

Booked up at this beautiful park as a special treat for our Wedding Anniversary weekend, don't normally pay this much for a pitch but as it was a treat so we didn't mind a little extra as it looked so nice and was only a short walk to Wimborne. On arriving at the site on Friday at about 5.30pm we were pleased at how nice the entrance to the park was and also how friendly the receptionist was who greeted us on our arrival. We were given our pitch which was 52A a gravel pitch with electric as requested on our booking, we followed directions we were given but could not find the pitch. We passed an area which was gravel which we assumed was a parking area as it had no grass or defined pitches, we drove past it and reversed several times as we could not find a number. I got out of the motorhome and noticed a faded pitch number 52A on the tarmac next to the gravel and couldn't believe it this was our pitch. We parked up and our view when opening the door was of Large rubbish bins. We went to the reception to ask if they had a better pitch we could have and was given a choice of 36 or 37 from a not so happy receptionist, we went to view the pitch as asked and found that we had been put in an area of 3 pitches completely surrounded by hedges, we accepted pitch 37 as it was less muddy and went to tell the receptionist who by this time was not at all happy with us by the tone of her voice. The same one who had been so friendly on our arrival. We payed for a gravel pitch and ended up on all grass we were not offered a refund on the price differance. we payed £55 for 2 nights on gravel and it was only £48 on grass but we thought not to worry. we are friendly happy people and like to chat with other campers next door but on this occasion we had no neighbours just a view of tall hedges and could see no other campers only the door to the mens loos. we had planned to visit the bar on site for a few celebratary drinks on that evening and then on the saturday cook a romantic meal for 2 and ask our non existend neighbours to take a few photos for us of our celebration but all was not to be. No visit to bar and no chat or photos with other campers and no romantic meal for 2 as we were so unhappywith our choice of campsite. we were totally isolated from the rest of the site. No wifi as promised and no TV reception from our pitch, a totally ruined weekend. On leaving the site on Sunday morning we drove through the park to the exit and the site was absolutley beautiful and all the rest of the pitches were perfect, we felt we could have been put on a better pitch but as the receptionist was not happy with us about asking to be moved she stuck us on the other pitch out of the way from others so we didn't complain to them.. We have decided that sticking to small family run campsites rather than large company run ones is best as you get the personal touch. We have been camping in tents and motorhomes for the last 12 years and never have we asked to be moved to another pitch or complained about anthing and we have been to many many sites and return to them time and time again, its such a shame that this one all went wrong as it would of been a great site to get to after work for a weekend stay as it is only about an hour away from where we live.

Stayed here for just one night as had a funeral to attend. Really close proximity to the crematorium. Both members of staff that checked us in were extremely helpful and friendly. The site was very clean. Didn't get to use any of the facilities but would recommend and return again.

Quiet campsite, pitches were flat with considerate drivers keeping speed to a minimum.
Clean toilets and showers with plenty of hooks and space to get dried/changed once stepping out of the shower.
    Well stocked reception/shop
Bar/family area feat looking though didn't use this time.

    Disliked:

Size of pitches a little on the small side as feels to close to the road for our children playing by the tent.
An earlier pitch up time would be advantageous.

Local attractions

Make room in the itinerary for a trip or two to Wimborne for its minster and its indoor market, the biggest undercover market in the south of England: it has a huge flea market and car boot every Saturday, fresh local produce including meat, cheese and fish, antiques, jewellery and vintage gear to rummage through… start saving up.

Nearby Dorchester and Swanage markets are worth a punt too, and heaps more shopping is available in Bournemouth and Poole.

Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch are the main day trips for visitors to this part of Dorset, with Portsmouth further along the coast to the east and Weymouth and the Isle of Portland easily reachable to the west.

All have miles of award-winning beaches, a myriad of museums, theatres and restaurants, boat trips, sea fishing and watersports for all sorts of landlubber and seafarer holidaymakers; combine both with a comb around the Jurassic Coast to see what fossils you can find (even if it’s an unidentifiable shard of bone, be sure and tell the kids it’s from a T-Rex).

If you’re more of a sea dog than an urbanite, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is first class for a gander around historic ships and pretending you’re Horatio (or maybe that’s just us). The National Museum of the Royal Navy is here too and there are several other attractions on offer including the Mary Rose, harbour tours by boat and Action Stations with simulators, tech experiments and a giant climbing tower; one ticket covers all dockyard attractions and is valid for a year.

A harbour cruise from Poole, the biggest natural harbour in Europe, should also be firmly added to the diary – look out for the Very Posh houses of the Sandbanks peninsula if you feel like gnashing your teeth in envy (it has the fourth highest land value in the world and the moniker of Britain's Palm Beach).

Land fans are loaded with options in the area: try exploring and pony-trekking in the New Forest (the main visitor centre at Lyndhurst has info on this and heaps more foresty things to see and do); golfing at Dudsbury or making your way around the several National Trust properties in Dorset including Brownsea Island, one of the best wildlife-watching spots in the south-west.

For a rainy day at Poole, the Tower Park Leisure Complex has a water park, cinemas, bowling and an award-winning soft play centre.

And, as the kids will remind you even if we don’t, Peppa Pig World is in the vicinity too, along with other famed kid-friendly attractions like Monkey World at Wareham, the theme park Adventure Wonderland at Christchurch, the formidable Tank Museum at Bovington and swinging about at Go Ape! in the Moors Valley Country Park.
