  • Family-run site a mile from the Jurassic Coast
  • Footpath leading to the South West Coast Path
  • Shop next door and pubs within walking distance
Guests return season after season to serene Osmington Mills Corner Campsite in its Dorset coast setting just outside the village of Osmington: it's been family run for over 60 years and has Dorset site stays down pat. Spacious pitches, room for kids to run around, and scenic views towards Weymouth four miles away are the secrets of its success, along with a peaceful rural vibe, restaurants nearby, and the site's closeness to the sea, a mile from the beaches of the Jurassic Coast. You can easily access the region's spectacular walks from here too, as a footpath leads from the site to the coast to connect with the South West Coast Path. (Or if that's a no thanks to the walk, a bus stop is just outside the site with services running to Weymouth.) Osmington has toilets, showers, a washing-up area and the means for ice pack freezing and gadget charging. A shop is next door to the site, and pubs and restaurants are within walking distance.

Great for one or two nights, not ideal for any longer than that.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: That you are able to pitch anywhere you like. The owners are friendly. The views are beautiful of the sea and surrounding area. Craigs Dairy Farm in the next field is lovely to visit. The beach is a 20minute walk from the camp site.

Disliked: The showers- the curtains aren’t really appropriate for a holiday site, they need to be doors for safety. The water trickles out, no power from the water and water temp is tepid. The washing up station is cold water fed only- will not clean sufficiently so make sure you boil the kettle for hot water. There are only 3 washing up sinks for whole site. It needs more toilets, especially for the gents. To hire a fire pit it’s £10 a night which is quite expensive compared to other sites in my opinion. You are not allowed wood burners but have to use charcoal or a 2hour burning log that the site sell for £2. The grass is very long (check family and dogs for ticks) and the ground very hilly in many areas so pick a spot carefully. Not so much disliked, but found it not useful to be on a main road, very noisy throughout day and night.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The site was good value and for £17 a night you can't really expect a huge amount but the facilities were kept clean and the owners were very friendly upon arrival.

Disliked: The downside to this campsite was the fact that only a few areas looked like purpose levelled tent pitches and these were already taken when we arrived so we ended up on quite a steep incline surrounded by quite long grass. The main problem however was some of the clientele on site who were conducting there own rave in the corner plot, playing incredibly loud drum and bass music until 3am for two nights of our three night stay.

Liked: Huge plus for location. It’s easy to find and bus stop is close. Friendly staff.

Disliked: Facilities was not so great. No hot water to wash dishes. On the showers (only 3 showers for ladies) was not enough hot to take nice shower after long day. Be ready to wait in the que to take a shower.

From the manager: I am sorry if the showers were not warm enough it is no problem increasing the temperature if you ask us during you're stay.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Friendly owners. No frills but good value for money. Flexible check in and late check out times are great

Disliked: This grassy site is susceptible to heavy wet weather, so all vehicles needed to be parked close to limited gravel tracks/hardstanding if raining heavily or forecast to do so. Not best suited to motor homes for this reason

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: thank you for youre comments.this was the first time in over 20 years that we had to park people near the site road with the unprecedented rain we had 2 days prior to opening on top of a wet winter . our site is free draining and we decided to remain open rather than cancel customers stay.we appreciated everyones cooperation and are pleased that the site is returning to normal.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Absolutely loved our two night stay at this site, we met both of the owners and they we're extremely outgoing, and had a very nice pop up shop at the entrance with any little bits you may have forgotten! The ground was perfect, we pitched up fairly high and had amazing views of the sunsets and sunrises. Walking to Bowleze Cove was lovely but very hilly and takes around 40 minutes. Closest shop to you is probably the SPAR or Applebys, both have great stock in them. Lovely pub fairly close as well that do a good pint and a full English. We will definitely be visiting this site again next year!

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

Get out onto the South West Coast Path close to the site, try your hand at fishing for Dorset mackerel, canter along the coast on horseback, take a boat out, or up the ante with some kayaking or zorbing… all available nearby. Weymouth, four miles away, has been a famed Dorset seaside spot since Georgian times and these days has stacks to do such as sailing and surfing (several surf schools are around if you're just starting out), a long sandy beach and a Sea Life Centre, miniature railway and RSPB reserve above the town at Lodmoor Country Park. More famed Dorset days can be had with fossil hunting on Chesil Beach, six miles away, and taking in the sight of spectacular Durdle Door at Lulworth Cove, within seven miles of the site. You could also chatter with the inhabitants of Monkey World, see the swans at the award-winning Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, or steam along to the Tank Museum at Bovington, all reachable within 10 miles.
