Get yourself a room with a view at Littlesea Holiday Park, which overlooks a glittering coastal lagoon at the heart of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, just a short drive from the popular resort of Weymouth. Littlesea Holiday Park’s smart new facilities include spacious indoor and outdoor pools, crazy golf, tennis and all-weather sports courts, as well as the Mash and Barrel lounge bar and café, which has a big sunny terrace with an even bigger view of the sweeping shingle of Chesil Bank. This being a Haven site, guests can get stuck into a huge range of sports and activities - everything from archery to zorbing on water - plus quality entertainment in the ShowBar in the evenings, including live music, cabaret and circus acts. For the kiddies, all kinds of wild fun is on the agenda with Rory the Tiger and the Zoo Troop, just some of the lively characters they might meet at the free children’s clubs for various age groups, which run sessions from cookery to crafts to circus skills. Young Bear Grylls in the making can get stuck into the wildly entertaining Nature Rockz activities. Learn all sorts from bushcraft to building shelters, with the chance to try pond dipping, beachcombing or even go on a bug safari. Most activities are free but a small charge may apply to some. Aside from the family friendly grub that’s served all day in the Mash and Barrel, there’s also a Papa John’s pizzeria, fish and chip shop and a Starbucks coffee shop on site. All in all, the attraction of this place is not so little, see?

Local attractions

The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage site studded with stunning coves, fossil beaches and amazing natural stone structures such as the arching Durdle Door. One location that’s not to be missed is right on your doorstep: the striking 18-mile stretch of shingle at Chesil Beach. Packed with good old fashioned beach-based fun (including Punch and Judy and donkeys), Weymouth also boasts attractions such as the Sea Life Park - home to over a thousand watery creatures - and the maze-like underground tunnels of Nothe Fort. The nearby isle of Portland is perfect for watersports enthusiasts (it was the venue for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics sailing events) and also has a Tudor fortress and the historic Portland Bill lighthouse to explore. Another massive sailing and watersports venue is Poole, one of the biggest natural harbours in Europe, and the jumping off point for Brownsea Island wildlife sanctuary, the beautiful beach and millionaires’ mansions of Sandbanks, the Poole Pottery museum and more. Jane Austen fans shouldn’t miss the chance to visit one of Persuasion’s iconic locations, Lyme Regis, for a stroll along the historic Cobb; it’s a very attractive seaside town with plenty of history to uncover, as well as being a magnet for fossil hunters. Birdlovers can flutter over to Studland Bay, whose golden sands are visited by a number of rare species, or take a stroll amidst the 600-strong mute swan colony at Abbotsbury Swannery, which also has lovely gardens and a children’s farm. There are loads of other family attractions in this area too: get your cheeky monkeys swinging from tree to tree on the ropes and bridges of the “Go Ape!” high wire course at Moors Valley Country Park (over 10s only), or take them to see the real deal at Monkey World.
