  • Well-kept family-friendly Dorset site 10 minutes’ drive from Wareham
  • Monkey World 10 minutes’ drive and Studland Bay 25 minutes
  • Electric hook-ups and hot showers; pubs and shops 10 minutes’ drive
Whatever your reason to head for the West County – beach holidays, family sightseeing, walking or watersports – Mill Paddock Campsite has got all bases covered. This small site is around 10 minutes’ drive from Jurassic Coast beaches and Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre; it’s also right by the Purbeck Way, and only a short stroll from paddleboarding adventures along the River Frome. With no designated pitches, you can set up wherever you like on the level, well-maintained and family-friendly camping field, which has electric hook-ups and water points dotted around its perimeter. The modern facilities block houses showers, toilets and washing-up sinks – it’s cleaned regularly and there’s always plenty of hot water. There are mature trees edging the field if you’re after shade, picnic tables are provided for alfresco dining and firepits are welcome so you can all gather around and enjoy being together. Logs are available to purchase on site at a low price, and pretty everything you need for outdoor evenings can be found in the shops, pubs and restaurants of Wareham (10 minutes’ drive). Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join in all the family fun, and guest numbers are always limited so the field never feels overcrowded; this also allows a safe environment for children to play in – and there’s a treehouse for them to muck around in too.

What customers say

This is a friendly, relaxed campsite with spacious, level pitches. Owners Paul and Abbie are consistently praised for their helpfulness and local knowledge. Facilities are generally clean, with a communal fridge and fire pits available. The location is excellent for exploring the Jurassic Coast. Some visitors noted issues with shower pressure and inconsistent temperature, though this appears to have been addressed by the managers in some instances. A small number of reviews mentioned ants.

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A fantastic location, with well set out facilities. Paul and Abi do an amazing job of ensuring all cogs are turning as they should.

Generous pitch sizes, with ample open space for the kids to roam and play.

Paul was also extremely helpful with amending my booking, and the helpfulness continued from arrival to departure.

Location wise, 10 mins from Bovington Tank Museum & Monkey World, 10 mins from Wareham town, 15 mins from Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door, 20 mins from Poole, 30 mins from Weymouth plus plenty of local walks through the fields and along the stream.

We will definitely be returning to Mill Paddock next year as the pitch size, layout, location, facilities, and service was all top tier.

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great location for Dorset tourist attractions. Nice flat level ground and large pitch sizes.

Disliked The no noise after 9pm policy is not policed. People were playing music loudly and drunkenly singing outside gone 11pm. After I phoned the campsite manager and complained, they said they would ask them to turn it down or confiscate their speakers, but after doing so, 10 minutes later the music was turned up louder and I could hear the people moaning about me. Grown adults acting like children. We booked the site for a peaceful getaway, but it was ruined by chavs and site managers unwilling to enforce their own policy. Do not be fooled by the high price of this site, it does not reflect the quality of the site nor the people it attracts!

Also given the size of the site and the number of people, the facilities are lacking. In the males, there is only 1 urinal, 2 toilets and 2 showers. Showers which are freezing cold most of the time as it runs off a hot water tank and not a modern gas boiler. I heard the manager say a few times, oh i wouldn't go in there yet there is no hot water. Ridiculous in this day and age.

Lastly, signal is poor on the site and there is no wifi.

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Place was cleaned multiple times a day, always loo roll, washing up liquid, sponges etc.

Paul was lovely full of lots of ideas of places to go & see.

Disliked The situation on arrival put a real damper on the start of our holiday with the way Paul's partner stormed over to our friends about what the hell was going on, I am not sure after an hr of discussions if anything got resolved but holiday was nice after that.

Only thing that I would change is the showers as they didn't really wash you it was more of a spray/mist & was either boiling or freezing but other wise the bathrooms where clean.

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Really well cared for campsite, facilities were clean and cleaned regularly throughout the day. The owners were so friendly and always around for help and loads of ideas for places to visit and walks to do.

Disliked There are only two showers and the spray was a fine mist so showering took a while. There isn't much space to park by the side of your tent, which can mean that you have to park in front of your tent.

Local attractions

There are footpaths and river walks a few metres away from the site, which is on the Purbeck Way as well as the Purbeck Cycle Ride route. Paddleboarding and kayaking on the River Frome can be arranged and booked with qualified local instructors at an additional cost. If you want to dip your toes in the sea, the sandy beaches of the Jurassic Coast are calling. Studland Bay (25 minutes’ drive) has miles of sandy beach with views of Old Harry’s Rocks, and you might want to try a bit of fossil hunting at Kimmeridge Bay (20 minutes). You can also have a safe swim in the shallow waters of Lulworth Cove (15 minutes), from where you can walk to the spectacular rock arch at Durdle Door in 25 minutes. The kids should appreciate watching the animal antics at Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre, where there are daily keeper talks, and enjoy mooching around the highly acclaimed Tank Museum at Bovington (both 10 minutes’ drive), where there are also frequent driving displays.
