  • Well-kept family-friendly Dorset site 10 minutes’ drive from Wareham
  • Monkey World 10 minutes’ drive and Studland Bay 25 minutes
  • Electric hook-ups and hot showers; pubs and shops 10 minutes’ drive
Whatever your reason to head for the West County – beach holidays, family sightseeing, walking or watersports – Mill Paddock Campsite has got all bases covered. This small site is around 10 minutes’ drive from Jurassic Coast beaches and Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre; it’s also right by the Purbeck Way, and only a short stroll from paddleboarding adventures along the River Frome. With no designated pitches, you can set up wherever you like on the level, well-maintained and family-friendly camping field, which has electric hook-ups and water points dotted around its perimeter. The modern facilities block houses showers, toilets and washing-up sinks – it’s cleaned regularly and there’s always plenty of hot water. There are mature trees edging the field if you’re after shade, picnic tables are provided for alfresco dining and firepits are welcome so you can all gather around and enjoy being together. Logs are available to purchase on site at a low price, and pretty everything you need for outdoor evenings can be found in the shops, pubs and restaurants of Wareham (10 minutes’ drive). Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join in all the family fun, and guest numbers are always limited so the field never feels overcrowded; this also allows a safe environment for children to play in – and there’s a treehouse for them to muck around in too.

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly owner (I think) who checked us in at the gate.

Disliked Showers were tricky to operate. They were the sort you often find in swimming pools, only to rinse yourself under, really not enough water being supplied to efficiently and quickly wash yourself.
Tent pitches rather close to one another. One could hear in the evening neighbours having loud sex, a party until 3am, or playing loudly music during the day. If the campsite is supposed to be families friendly, nighttime between 11pm and 6am should be imposed and enforced. If you’re in for a quiet and peaceful stay, this campsite ain’t for you.

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Warm welcome from Paul.
Clean toilets, showers, kitchen area, hot water. Communal fridge. Beautiful sunset viewing point over the river just a short walk away with lots of deer to spot.
Conveniently situated.
Useful info from Abbey and Paul for where to launch our own kayaks/paddleboards.
Facilities blocks nicely surrounded by hedges.

Disliked The showers were the only thing that I think could be improved. It felt like a spray/mist of water, so it takes longer to clean yourself etc. But it wouldn't stop me from returning and neither did it reduce my overall wonderful experience.

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A fantastic site, we were welcomed soon as we arrived. The toilet and shower facilities were spotless. Great location for local towns and beaches. Walkers paradise also a great location for star gazing. Our dog miss Daisy loved the little river areas she could splash about in. Me and Phil put this campsite in our top 5 that will definitely come back to. A place to really unwind even with the company of the local hedgehogs

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great location for exploring, friendly & helpful owner. Quiet.

Disliked Showers adequate but very poor water pressure - light mist, & fixed shower head so not great for shorter people. Shower curtains could do with cleaning or replacing.
We also consider that a 2pm check in time is a bit restrictive.

Local attractions

There are footpaths and river walks a few metres away from the site, which is on the Purbeck Way as well as the Purbeck Cycle Ride route. Paddleboarding and kayaking on the River Frome can be arranged and booked with qualified local instructors at an additional cost. If you want to dip your toes in the sea, the sandy beaches of the Jurassic Coast are calling. Studland Bay (25 minutes’ drive) has miles of sandy beach with views of Old Harry’s Rocks, and you might want to try a bit of fossil hunting at Kimmeridge Bay (20 minutes). You can also have a safe swim in the shallow waters of Lulworth Cove (15 minutes), from where you can walk to the spectacular rock arch at Durdle Door in 25 minutes. The kids should appreciate watching the animal antics at Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre, where there are daily keeper talks, and enjoy mooching around the highly acclaimed Tank Museum at Bovington (both 10 minutes’ drive), where there are also frequent driving displays.
