  • Family-run and dog-friendly campsite on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset
  • Studland Bay beach and the Jurassic Coast 15 minutes’ drive
  • Mobile catering available every night; pub and shop 20 minutes’ walk
Pack your hiking boots and get your cameras charged for your break at Holme Lane Camping, a family-run site on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. Set on a level, 30-acre field sheltered by mature trees, this peaceful spot leads directly to plenty of walks for you and any canine pals, while spectacular Jurassic Coast landmarks like Old Harry Rocks and Durdle Door (both 20 minutes’ drive) will soon inspire your inner photographer. The site is 20 minutes’ walk from the local village of Stoborough, where you can browse for essentials in the convenience store and treat the whole family to supper in the welcoming village pub. Back on the camping field, you’re welcome to spark up a barbecue any time. Firepits are available for hire, and kindling or fire lighters can be bought for a small fee. Never fear, though, if alfresco cooking is just not your thing, there’s on-site mobile catering with different menus throughout the week. If you prefer to abandon your car by your pitch and explore this corner of Dorset by public transport, a regular bus service leaves Stoborough for riverside Wareham (20 minutes by bus).

Local attractions

Get to know the Jurassic Coast (15 minutes) by taking long walks along the ever-shifting shingle at Chesil Beach (45 minutes), or pick up a picnic in pretty Wareham (20 minutes) to eat beachside at gorgeous Lulworth Cove (15 minutes). Hike the South West Coast Path to the imposing Tyneham Cap clifftops (10 minutes), or have a lazy day on the sandy beach at Studland Bay (15 minutes). Take the ferry from Sandbanks (half an hour) to National Trust-owned Brownsea Island to see if you can spot the breeding colony of rare red squirrels. For more urban trips out, have meander around the yacht marina in Poole (20 minutes), admire the wacky waterfront Sea Music Sculpture and stop off for a pint of Dorset cider in an old-world pub. If kids are with you, they’ll most likely thank you for blissful days spent scrambling around muddy obstacle courses at Dorset Adventure Park (10 minutes), or the chance to pet piglets and cutesy Valais Blacknose lambs (in season) at Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park (15 minutes).
