  • Rural campsite on a working farm close to Dorset's beaches
  • A five-minute drive to Corfe Castle; 20 minutes to the Jurassic Coast
  • Snack bar on site; an easy walk to a farm shop, pub and birdwatching
Camp Hartland is in an enviable location on a working farm between medieval Corfe Castle, sandy beaches and the Purbeck Hills in Dorset. With country walks and bike rides nearby, this is a smashing base for friends and families (and their dogs, of course) chasing outdoor adventures with a quasi wild-camping vibe. Here you can pitch your tent for a night or more, sleeping under the stars in peaceful surroundings. There are three camping fields for you to choose from, and the chalet-style wash shack has two family washrooms with showers and loos, plus washing-up facilities – and thoughtfully there are four eco-loos scattered around the farm so there’s never too far to walk if nature calls. Camp life centres on the sociable hubbub around the Horsebox Café, run by one of the site managers, Jill, and open in the morning and afternoon serving up tea, coffee, soft drinks, hot breakfast baps, picnic pies and tasty pasties (all made on site), as well as cakes, biscuits and ice creams. Nature lovers should stroll down to RSPB Stoborough Heath (20 minutes’ walk) or Hartland Moor National Nature Reserve (five minutes) for the chance to spot warblers and (rare) hen harriers. Also within walking distance is a farm with seasonal PYO fruit and a shop selling regional produce, and the nearest pub (10 minutes’ walk) has good grub, local beers or ciders and a pub garden with a kids’ play area. You can pick up essentials in the gorgeous market town of Wareham, sitting on the Piddle and Frome rivers, and home to Purbeck Film Festival in the summer, when films are projected onto the old city walls.

Liked We had a lovely stay. The campsite is beautiful and has good facilities.

We had the rare experience of camping in hot sunny weather 😁

Disliked There could be more charging points for mobile phones as there are no electrical hookups.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely setting surrounded by countryside and heathland. You can watch the sunset every night. Easy to find and good facilities. I loved that there was horses and dogs around.

Disliked There was a festival 2 fields over which was noisy but it stopped around 11.30pm. Would have been okay if I’d had a ticket! 😂

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked This was the most relaxed and friendly campsite we’ve ever stayed at. All the owners are lovely and super helpful if you need anything, delicious homemade breakfast sandwiches were a bonus after a morning run. The surrounding area is stunning and Camp Hartland was a perfect base camp for exploring the wider area

Disliked Very slight noise from road however this really does drop a night and other than the occasional motorbike didn’t bother us at all

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Free to come and go as we pleased. Good facilities and nice hot water!
Lots of space and no set pitches meant we were not penned in like cattle as you get at some other sites.
Dog friendly but not noisy. Our dogs slept soundly through the night.

Disliked Lacked signage once on their track. We sat around for 10 minutes not knowing where to go once we arrived before a helpful man (I assume owner) came over to tell us we could go in any field we liked.

Slightly on a hill so I rolled off my bed through the night.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked It was good to picknour own camp site on the lower field.
I must admit though more toilets would be better as this is a large area with lots of other guests

Disliked It wasn't totally clear how to book in. A larger sign maybe a bit higher and brighter would be good

As above more just toilets would be preferable

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great little site right on the moors, so if you like walking around with wild horses and donkeys, it's a great place to stay. Wareham, Corfe Castle and the rest of the attractions in the area are all easily accessible.
Family toilets are very clean and well kept, and there's extra showers if they're full. Nice site, easy to check in, and the cafe is always open if you need to speak someone.
Some people have reviewed that they didn't like there not being someone in a kiosk or office to go to. If you want that, go elsewhere. If you're after a quiet little site in a beautiful area with great facilities for all sorts of groups, then this is a great option.
If we head that way again, I'd certainly look to book here again.
