  • Family-friendly farm site on the Isle of Purbeck
  • On the edge of Langton Matravers; five minutes' drive from Swanage
  • Café; adventure farm (additional fee) with a petting zoo and soft play
A family-friendly site with grassy field pitches on a working farm, Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake sits on the outskirts of the peaceful Dorset village of Langton Matravers, on the Isle of Purbeck. This is an excellent base to unwind or explore the Purbecks, whether it's walking, cycling, climbing, kayaking, coasteering or visiting tourist attractions. When you roll up here, you're free to pick any spot you like. This site is all about unwinding and soaking in the countryside views, so off-ground firepits and barbecues are welcome. On-site amenities include toilets, token-operated showers and a washing-up point. You’ll never be far from the sea on this scenic stretch of land: the site is a five-minute drive from Swanage beach and 15 minutes from Studland beach. Walks through fields to the South West Coast Path are directly accessible from the site; once there, you're on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and can get to spectacular views like the Dancing Ledge (check out the small sea pool…) and the caves at Winspit Quarry. The site has a small shop and an on-site café serving local produce, including breakfast and lunch. In the evenings, it sometimes opens up an offset smoker barbecue or pizza oven. Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake also has an adventure farm (an additional fee applies) with a petting zoo, a large indoor soft play area, a playground and pedal go-karts. With a bus stop and a range of footpaths just outside the site, it's easy to explore the area on foot, by bus or by car. There are car-free trails to the historic village of Corfe Castle (one hour and 15 minutes on foot or a 10-minute drive). And just in case this all-round top location wasn’t already great enough, it's also less than 500 metres from the local pub, which has a cosy beer garden. Another popular pub is a five-minute drive away – although, after a few ciders, the bus might come in handy.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Toilets and showers clean.
Cafe lovely, good range of food options and camping gear if you need tent pegs, sleeping bag etc they have it. The breakfasts looked amazing.

Disliked There is a slight incline but its not impossible to find a flat area on outside of field. Can't really say its a dislike. But that is the only thing that comes to mind.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Fabulous last minute stay in our camper van.

Easy to get to. Amazing views at the top of the camping field - lots of space and incredibly friendly staff.

We didn’t know what to expect and just envisaged a field but there is a lovely little cafe on site with gorgeous homemade food and an added bonus of onsite showers, toilet blocks and and outside kitchen/washing up facility.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly team and welcoming. Have to say the cafe and shop were very good quality. Lots of local products at pretty reasonable prices for onsite.
Family orientated place with the soft play and access to feeding animals. Staff always appeared very happy to answer the kids and adults questions.
Toilets and showers good quality and clean although the Mrs found the 4min showers via token somewhat challenging.
Handy location for the area with a quick 1.5 mile trot into shops at Swanage and out and about to other areas of interest.

Disliked Nothing really for what we expected.

Liked Very friendly welcome and lovely helpful staff.

Simple to set up and find a pitch - decent little shop with camping bits.

Beautiful views and nicely positioned close to the village (with nice local pub).

Offering for kids is amazing - large soft play, farm tour and outdoor playground all absolutely superb.

Breakfast at cafe was great - lovely local produce.

Disliked Showers were a bit rustic and cold.

Local attractions

With a long sandy beach and shallow waters, Swanage is a popular destination for a family day at the seaside. And when you’re all beached out, you can head to Prince Albert Gardens for views of the Victorian pier and Swanage Bay, or take a ride on the Swanage Railway's heritage trains all the way to Corfe Castle and beyond. Overlooked by the ruins of 11th-century Corfe Castle, Dorset Adventure Park (10 minutes’ drive) is the place to get wet (at the inflatable water park) and/or muddy (at the assault course with cargo nets, monkey bars and mud slides). If you’re into militaria, you'll likely appreciate the displays at The Tank Museum (25 minutes), which include armoured vehicles from both World Wars, plus other conflicts like the wars in the Gulf and Afghanistan. Iconic Jurassic Coast destinations Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are half an hour's drive away.
