  • Glamping site at a scenic family-run Dorset boutique winery
  • Shaftesbury five minutes' drive; 50 minutes to Jurassic Coast
  • On the edge of Cranborne Chase for views, walks and stargazing
Now here's a real treat for those that appreciate a good glass of something… how about a glamping break at a family-owned boutique winery in the glorious Dorset countryside? About five minutes' drive south of Shaftesbury (and easily accessed from the A350) is Melbury Vale Vineyard, in the Stirkel Valley and with gorgeous views over the hills of Melbury Downs to the Cranborne Chase National Landscape. The sunrises and sunsets are often pretty special here – and the site is just on the edge of the Dorset dark sky park too, so you’ll be treated to some spectacular stargazing on clear nights. All of this makes a wonderful backdrop to some time spent sipping something delicious while gazing out over the very place it was made. Sibling owners Clare and Glynn have come a long way since they first bought 28 acres of derelict farmland here back in 2003, and they now oversee not just an award-winning vineyard and winery but also a cider orchard and a distillery producing liqueurs, brandy and aromatised wines. Of course, there's more to this location than just the opportunity to have a nice drink. The stylish and well-equipped accommodation is in an excellent spot for working up a good thirst with days out walking on rural trails, visiting the Jurassic Coast or exploring historic settings like Stonehenge and Bath. As well as being home to the famed Gold Hill, the centre of Shaftesbury also has several places to eat and shops where you can pick up supplies to go with your drinks back at base.
