Gold Hill Glamping: Guests relaxing

General

  • Bell tent glamping on a farm with gorgeous Dorset country views
  • Two miles from Shaftesbury; less than an hour's drive from the coast
  • Off-grid tents with lanterns, campfire pit and kitchen shelter

Classic English views don’t come much more classic than that of Shaftesbury’s Gold Hill, a steep cobbled street that had been admired for centuries even before a famous bread advert baked it into Britain’s collective imagination.

Two miles south of the Dorset town is a glampsite that’s been inspired to take its name, and while you can’t actually see the famed street itself from Gold Hill Glamping there are some rather gorgeous country views to compensate. The glamping meadow at this working farm slopes gently westwards so it’s particularly well placed for the best of the evening light.

There’s plenty to choose from when it comes to sussing out the top spot for sunset views: this is a site of three acres but only a couple of tents, so you’ll be guaranteed a good serving of peace and space. And if you want some company? Have a chat with farmers Clea and Jonathan to see if you can watch the cows being milked or give the ponies a pat.

It’s all suitably rural in vibe around here: there’s no electricity so lanterns and campfires will light the evenings, and by day you can wander into the neighbouring woodland to discover rope swings, fairy doors hidden among tree trunks and a stream to splash in.

Each tent has a comfy double bed along with futons that you can convert into kids’ beds (you’ll just need to bring bedding). Outside, meanwhile, there’s a picnic bench, a campfire pit and a well-equipped kitchen shelter. Flushing loos and hot showers are up by the farmhouse a hundred metres away, and there’s also a composting loo closer to hand in the field.

Please note

No electric barbecues allowed.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Fishing is not currently available due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The lodge is in an absolutely perfect location. Nice and private with stunning views. The owners are fabulous 5 stars isn't enough. They went above and beyond what's expected of them and helped us with a horrible bug that struck the children whilst we were away. Rooms were comfortable and heated if we needed it.
The outdoor dining/bbq area is brilliant. The garden is huge our cane corso loved the space and it really helped her having the boundary.
Cooking facilities are like being at home. Honestly cannot recommend enough.
    We will be back again.
