The View Camping

General

  • Secluded and simple meadow site with stunning views
  • A 10-minute drive from Poole and close to Isle of Purbeck attractions
  • A mile's walk/drive from pubs and shops in Lytchett Matravers

As the name suggests, The View Campsite is all about the surroundings: it’s a simple site with stunning views over the Isle of Purbeck towards the Lulworth Hills and Corfe Castle. It’s the sort of site where you’ll wake up to birdsong (one reviewer spotted 22 species on the site), and may spot wild deer wandering through.

In keeping with the back to nature theme, pitches are in a natural meadow setting that’s all about the simple pleasures of being out in the gorgeous Dorset countryside. Facilities include a water tap and a regularly cleaned portaloo, along with a gas shower a short walk away in a converted horse box. Firepits can be used, and there's a limited number of them available to hire on site. You can also buy firewood (plus fresh eggs) to lighten the load you need to bring.

For food, it’s a walk or drive of a mile into Lytchett Matravers for some excellent pubs and shops (and a play park to entertain the nippers). Also locally, Bere Farm (10 minutes' walk or a minute in the car) has a much-loved café and tea shop selling hot, fresh local food. If you’d rather stick to your pitch, you’re welcome to light up a fire and pour a glass of something nice as the owls start to hoot and the stars come out.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

A charge of £2.00 applies for the use of the shower.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Please use eco-friendly products when using the shower or washing-up areas.

Please take your rubbish with you when you leave.

The outdoor sink for washing-up only has cold water.

I loved this campsite, as everyone has said the owners are lovely so kind and attentive. As soon as we got there (easy to find) they were so warm and welcoming telling us all about the site and telling us to have a drive about and decide where we wanted to go. They also explained where was the best place for us to go if we Wanted to see deer or rabbits Etc, it was so lovely that they knew their fields so well. They even said that the come and stay out here sometimes! They left us to pitch and then came back to see if we wanted a fire pit and wood. The fire pit was beautiful and worked so well, such a talking point! The owners were always just a text away and that was perfect!

The site is on a hill and for a large tent there was a few places we could pitch so I’m pleased we got there quite early we ended up going at the top of the hill and for us that was perfect, it was quite windy at night but was fine for us. However if you are in a smaller tent 2/4 man tent you would have a pick of a lot of pitches! The grass was a lovely length to camp on too.

It was lovely seeing the views and animals around and also hearing the birds and owls at night. One thing we really took advantage of was going blackberry picking, they were lovely!

I thought that the the toilet, shower and washing up areas were perfect, and as beautiful as the can be with flowers, bunting and fairy lights everywhere! The Newley finished toilet and shower horse box is so cute!!! I personally think that we could have done with another one in the other field (Maybe in the other horse box) though at times there was queues 1 toilet for 14 people was ok but 2 toilets would have been perfect.

    Thankyou for a wonderful stay!

Very friendly owners who were on hand as soon as we arrived. Beautiful, peaceful site with clean toilets and showers. So many places are a short drive away from here so a perfect base for exploring. You can hire fire pits and wood if you do not have your own.

Love that there are no set pitches, you're invited to have a drive around and set up wherever you'd like across the two fields.

Horsebox shower and toilet is a great addition and well maintained and cleaned.

Local attractions

Poole (10 minutes’ drive) is a good place to start your explores: it’s home to the splendid Sandbanks beach and the start point for boat trips to Brownsea Island, a nature reserve laced with walking trails, rare red squirrels and tempting stop-offs for a picnic. For more beaches and things like watersports, take off to Bournemouth (20 minutes) or Swanage (half an hour).

For longer walks, the South West Coastal Path starts (or finishes) in Poole. It’s 630 miles all in, but the marked trails give ample chances for fine views and nature spotting all along; the seven-mile stretch between Poole and Swanage makes an easy day’s walk with a ferry ride back, and you’ll take in the clifftop geological freakery of Old Harry’s Rocks en route. For Jurassic Coast fossil hunts, Lulworth Cove and Charmouth beaches are top local tips, half an hour and an hour away.

Over on the Isle of Purbeck there’s a good collection of things to do, including nature-themed days at RSPB Arne (25 minutes), historic ambles around the ruins of Corfe Castle (25 minutes) and ape-based antics at Monkey World (15 minutes). Also close by for family days out are Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park (five minutes) and the bowling, waterpark and other entertainment options at Tower Park (15 minutes).

  • Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (6.6 miles)
