  • Well-located adults-only Dorset touring park near the A35
  • Poole Quay, Corfe Castle and Monkey World within 20 minutes' drive
  • Dogs welcome; Lytchett Matravers pubs and shops a mile away
Have a look at this for a conveniently located place to stay in the Dorset countryside – Huntick Farm Caravan Park is only a little way off the A35, the main road running across the county, and it’s a mere mile from the shops and pubs in Lytchett Matravers. Not that it’s all about the location, handy though it is… this is a site that’s surrounded by lovely views and offers a warm welcome and helpful service to all its guests. It’s an adults-only setup here, but dogs are welcome and provided with a designated exercise area for a proper stretch of the paws. There are plenty of dog-friendly pubs and attractions nearby too, so they’ll be able to join you on your outings – just ask on site for tips. Dogs will need to be kept on a lead at all times on site, however, because it’s not just human guests that like to come along here – the park is also popular with passing wildlife like deer, badgers, buzzards and hedgehogs, so the owners are keen to make sure they’re not disturbed. Facilities at Huntick Farm have been well thought out to make life easy for guests – you’ll have access to a launderette and drying room, a washing-up area, a wifi connection, chemical disposal and bathrooms with toilets and showers. Poole (15 minutes' drive) is your nearest large town for anything you can't get in Lytchett Matravers.

Liked: The site is so peaceful and even in the rain was very beautiful. Our van broke down and the staff on site were extremely kind and helpful. We went for a lovely walk directly from the site, and it’s only a short drive to plenty of other local attractions.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: It was a nicely laid out sight and handy for going to Poole docks for an overnight stay. Supposed to be in motorhome/tent field hence selecting that in selected pitches.

Disliked: To be honest it was over priced for what it was. Facilities we just basic as expected for a farm campsite. We unfortunately arrived late although I advised them that we would be late as you never know with ferry crossing. Told not to worry as number plate recognition but after 11pm the barrier closes. We missed it by 2 minutes. Made us wonder what would happen in a fire. We sadly were put on a field for overnight stay with no hook up. They did give us the price for electric back though but having camped 4 star in France for £25 a night and paid £33 for just a field - felt it was a bit much. Small clean shower block with toilets, water, elan and that’s it. If you are going there to get to the docks maybe stay in a long stay overnight car park and save money.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch (super)

Liked: Beautiful quiet site with a lovely view across countryside. Very warm welcome to the site and a nice reception area with a few basics on offer if you’ve forgotten something. great facilities and lovely clean hot showers. Wild deer in the field and owls hooting at night. Peaceful.

Disliked: Our pitch was by the toilet block so felt quite overlooked with lots of people constantly going past.

Local attractions

Dorset is, of course, well known for its gorgeous landscapes – and it should be pretty easy to check out some of the top spots from here. Both the atmospheric ruins of Corfe Castle and the sparkling waters of the Blue Pool are about 20 minutes' drive away, or you could set off to the coast for a day at Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door (half an hour). If you fancy a bit of activity among this scenery, perhaps play a round at Bulbury Woods Golf Club (five minutes) or have a go at the madcap floating assault course at Dorset Adventure Park (20 minutes). For more leisurely strolls, board a boat at Poole Quay (15 minutes) for a wildlife trail around Brownsea Island, wander around the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy estate (15 minutes) or set off to see birds at Abbotsbury Swannery (45 minutes). Don’t write off Dorset’s favourite family attractions either – places like Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes), The Tank Museum (25 minutes) and the Swanage Railway (half an hour) have plenty to offer for grownup days out.
