  • Well-presented shepherds huts set in 30 acres of woodland
  • Lyme Regis 10 minutes' drive or 20 minutes to Bridport
  • Secluded ensuite accommodation with a kitchenette and double bed
Snug yet well-proportioned, luxurious but surrounded by nature, Stubbs Bridge Wood brings together all the ingredients for a great glamping getaway. Set 10 minutes' drive inland from the coast at Lyme Regis and 20 minutes from Bridport, Stubbs Bridge Wood is set in a stunning tract of countryside that straddles the East Devon and Dorset areas of outstanding natural beauty. The Jurassic Coast is within easy reach for hiking on the South West Coast Path, or you could have lazier days on site relaxing to the sound of the stream and keeping an eye out for roe deer and foxes… This 30-acre site has a small selection of smart shepherd’s huts surrounded by peaceful woodlands, with lovely valley views. Pretty much everything is taken care of inside, with a proper double bed, a woodburning stove and a kitchenette, as well as ensuite toilet and shower facilities. Outside, there's garden furniture and a private firepit where you can keep cosy after dark and get up to a bit of alfresco stargazing whenever the mood takes you. After a pub? One popular watering hole is located about a mile and a half away in Raymond's Hill, close to the A35 road. For supermarkets and cafés, meanwhile, you're roughly the same distance from the amenities in Lyme Regis and Axminster (both 10 minutes' drive).

Local attractions

Here to visit the Jurassic Coast? Find fossils, wander along the historic Cobb or stretch out on the beach with an ice cream in Lyme Regis (10 minutes' drive), take yourself off to Charmouth (10 minutes) for gently sloping stretches of sands or take a nostalgic journey on the Seaton Tramway (20 minutes) along the Axe Estuary to the shoreline and back. Other attractions in the local area include Forde Abbey House and Gardens (20 minutes), a converted Cistercian monastery and country estate with gorgeous grounds and plenty of scenic rambles. Abbotsbury's Subtropical Gardens (30 minutes) have a similarly spectacular array of flora on show, as well as a tea rooms, kids' adventure playgrounds and an award-winning swannery. For spectator motorsports, you're about half an hour's drive here from the Smeatharpe Stadium (30 minutes), which hosts a packed schedule of competitions and fixtures throughout the year. For slower-paced options, you might like to take a leisurely stroll around Dorchester (40 minutes), Dorset's well-preserved county town, or scale the earthworks at Maiden Castle (40 minutes), an Iron Age hillfort with spectacular panoramas over the surrounding area.

Oak shepherd's hut

Liked: Good location set with peaceful, pretty surroundings, but only 15 minutes drive from Lyme Regis seafront. Huts are cosy and well equipped for a few nights away. Nice having electric heater as well as the log burner as the mornings were chilly so we could take the chill off without having to light the log burner. Hairdryer, fan, towels, milk on arrival, tea/coffee provided which were nice touches too. Walks around the local surroundings were beautiful, set in the woods with paths cleared for ease. Beautiful picnic area by a stream down the bottom of the hill. Very peaceful and relaxing stay.

Disliked: Limited hanging space
