General

  • Family-run site 12 miles from the Jurrassic Coast and Lyme Regis
  • Tearoom on site serving cream teas, meals and Sunday roasts
  • Well-maintained amenities including heated shower block

As one knows, a cream tea is an absolute must when holidaying in Dorset. So how fortuitous is Lyme Regis's Oathill Farm Holiday and Touring Park's addition of Lucy's Tearoom right on site, in an eighteenth century farmhouse with traditional oak beams, open log fires and landscaped lawns: you might reckon a cream tea here is worth the trip alone.

Teas are served to one's table indoors or in the country house tea garden, and you can also nosh on homemade farmhouse food served all day, including cooked breakfasts and Sunday roasts. If you need to walk it all off, many human- and dog-friendly walks start straight from the site along public footpaths and a network of country lanes, over bridges and rivers to local beauty spots Forde Abbey House and Gardens, Pilsdon Pen and Wayford Woods.

The family crew at Oathill have been running things in a relaxed, friendly and well-kept manner for years at their neatly landscaped site, set over ten acres of Dorset countryside, landscaped ponds and separate designated recreational and dog walking areas all providing a peaceful environment for guests.

The team prides itself on the standard of its facilities and amenities: there's a heated toilet and shower block, a washing-up area, a washer and a dryer. A small shop sells basic bits as well as camping essentials.

We stayed on their grass pitch with electric. Was fantastic opening our blinds in the morning looking out onto their 3 goats and cow, their rabbits were further up the field in their own run. The toilets and shower block were kept very clean. This is a family run site and everyone was made to feel welcome. They did breakfasts and lunchtime meals they looked lovely though we did our own as usual. They also do B & B there in the farmhouse.

    Disliked:

    Nothing to dislike.

Level grass field. Hosts were pleasant. Clean facilities which might not be enough when full possibly?

    Disliked:

Bit too quiet for our liking with nothing to do once you're back at the caravan, so make sure you are ready for a quiet evening in when returning to the site.
    Poor Wifi / telephone signal.

Well kept site, not too big and quiet. Handy small shop for minor items. Cafe. Helpful owners. No childrens play park or other (to us) superfluous facilities.

    Disliked:

No food in the shop really except beer which was good. This is probably the dearest site we have ever stayed on by a few pounds.

The campsite is small and contained and lovely and quiet!

    Disliked:

The toilet block/shower facilities are very good, but a long way from the tent pitches.
Although very near the caravan pitches, which seemed the wrong way around to me. But I guess the caravans are there all year and the tents are not. There are only 2 ladies toilets and showers also.

We stayed for 8 nights on a large fully serviced gravel pitch in the upper field. The toilets and showers were very clean. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the Tea Room was lovely. We had a full Breakfast one morning which was delicious and set us up for the day. The scones are to die for and the Sunday Lunch is highly recommended. There is an honesty shop on site which sells all your essentials which we used a few times. The site is well maintained and very central for visiting all the local villages being only 12 miles from Lyme Regis. Crewkerne which is the nearest large village had everything you needed, Waitrose, Lidl and a variety of cafes and shops. WiFi is only available in the Tea Rooms or just outside which wasn't a problem for us. We will definitely be back!

Directions

From the north (A303), exit onto the A356 to Crewkerne. At Crewkerne high street, the road splits left and right: take the right and then an immediate left on the sharp bend (B3165 Hermitage Street signposted to Lyme Regis).

If you miss this turning, follow the road around to the right up past the chip shop and then turn right, back down to the high street. Turn right into the high street and try again.

Do not follow a satnav route out of Crewkerne. We are on the Lyme Regis road on the left after 4.5 miles, just after the village of Clapton.
