General

  • Family-run site 12 miles from the Jurrassic Coast and Lyme Regis
  • Tearoom on site serving cream teas, meals and Sunday roasts
  • Well-maintained amenities including heated shower block

As one knows, a cream tea is an absolute must when holidaying in Dorset. So how fortuitous is Lyme Regis's Oathill Farm Holiday and Touring Park's addition of Lucy's Tearoom right on site, in an 18th-century farmhouse with traditional oak beams, open log fires and landscaped lawns: you might reckon a cream tea here is worth the trip alone.

Teas are served to one's table indoors or in the country house tea garden, and you can also nosh on homemade farmhouse food served all day, including cooked breakfasts and Sunday roasts. If you need to walk it all off, many human- and dog-friendly walks start straight from the site along public footpaths and a network of country lanes, over bridges and rivers to local beauty spots Forde Abbey House and Gardens, Pilsdon Pen and Wayford Woods.

The family crew at Oathill have been running things in a relaxed, friendly and well-kept manner for years at their neatly landscaped site, set over ten acres of Dorset countryside, landscaped ponds and separate designated recreational and dog walking areas all providing a peaceful environment for guests.

The team prides itself on the standard of its facilities and amenities: there's a heated toilet and shower block, a washing-up area, a washer and a dryer. A small shop sells basic bits as well as camping essentials.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

From October to March electricity is metered on site at 21p per kWh and must be paid upon departure.

The tearoom is open from Friday to Mondays only in the winter season.

Remote location. Friendly welcome and very clean facilities. 23/09/2018

Fully serviced all gravel pitches. Room for caravan and awning or car (not both) but with additional parking very close so not an issue. Pitches decently spaced apart and also level so quick and easy to get set up. It might however be a bit tight getting onto the pitch if your van is not fitted with a motor mover as driving on the grass is discouraged - which is why it looks so good!

Facilities very clean and tidy and regularly serviced. Good recycling facilities.

Remote and generally quiet location - all pitches were full (circa 17) but only about 3 seemed to be occupied - the Mary Celeste of camp sites so no queues for the facilities.

Pitches are set within tree lined mounds/boundaries which provided protection from the gales.

    Disliked:

No fold-down seats in the shower changing areas or shelves for soap etc

Drainage works being carried out next to the pond using machinery - it would have been good to have been advised of this at the time of booking.

I thought the fees were a bit on the high side for the middle of September, however they were clear so it was my choice.

Toilets and showers really clean. Tea room lovely and owners really nice.

    Disliked:

Hard standing pitch was very difficult to bang pegs in for awning. More seasonal pitches than available touring pitches. Also only one fully serviced pitch available but owners made another one available for our stay. Dog walking area was not suitable as grass long and have small dogs so could not use it.

Quiet, shower/toilet block is still amazing. Never seen a better one. 'Cafe' / small shop etc on site. Dog walking area. Nice & friendly.

    Disliked:

Now the original area is for seasonal caravans etc only (& they mainly have thier own on board facilities) it can be quite a treck to the shower/toilet block especially when the weather ia not so great. Saying that it was fine whilst I stayed lol. Not a complaint mind, more an observation really.

Definitely a site to recommend as one of the best we have stayed on, site was very busy while we were there but shower block was always clean and dry with lovely hot showers. Owners were very friendly, unfortunately we didn't get a chance to visit the tea room so will have to return for a longer stay next year.

The size of the pitches and the quiteness of the site. How clean the facilities were

    Disliked:

Lack of choice in the shop. The party going on in the field near the shower block till the early hours when it was made very clear you had to be quiet by 10.30am

From the manager...

Thank you for the good review
regarding the noise we had several people comment on this and we were able to advise that the party was a local pub 3 fields away having a function and the acousticks that evening made it sound like it was on our site this dose happen some times with our local pubs as wind direction ect can really enable sound to travel.
From most of our campers we do get good comments on our shop however we do agree it is very basic.
kind regards
Les and Carol owners.

Directions

From the north (A303), exit onto the A356 to Crewkerne. At Crewkerne high street, the road splits left and right: take the right and then an immediate left on the sharp bend (B3165 Hermitage Street signposted to Lyme Regis).

If you miss this turning, follow the road around to the right up past the chip shop and then turn right, back down to the high street. Turn right into the high street and try again.

Do not follow a satnav route out of Crewkerne. We are on the Lyme Regis road on the left after 4.5 miles, just after the village of Clapton.
