General

  • Stays on a working dairy farm, 15 minutes’ drive from Shaftesbury
  • On Cranbourne Chase’s edges; fishing lakes under 20 minutes' walk
  • Afternoon teas and picnic hampers available (request in advance)

Dawdle through Duncliffe Woods in Dorset while on a trip away at Provost Farm – this rural spot is 10 minutes’ drive from the walking trails at this leafy green space (and are accessible on foot in an hour via trails leading from the park).

Fishing lakes and a pub are also within pottering distance (25 minutes’ walk), plus a couple of other inns are five minutes’ drive. For supermarkets, get to Gillingham (10 minutes) and grab goodies for grilling on the barbecue back on base.

When errands are done, head to historical Shaftesbury (15 minutes), which has a public outdoor lido if you fancy a dip and is your gateway to the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Alternatively, speed south to the beaches on the Jurassic Coast – Weymouth is an hour away.

Or just stick around on site… Guests can feed the pigs and order food hampers (in advance) to take on a riverside picnic just off the trailway or at the farm. Afternoon teas can be arranged as well, but please request these well ahead of time.

Please note

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

We had a lovely stay at Provost campsite. Louise, Luke and their children were very accommodating. Large fields allowed for spaced out pitches. Lovely walk to the local pub, as well as in Duncliffe Woods.

We stayed as a young group of adults. The owners of the farm/campsite were so accommodating throughout our stay, Louise called in advance and offered us a separate pitch in the interest of both us and the other campers which was just perfect, we could enjoy our evenings without disturbing others; proper rural and rustic camping at its best.
There were an abundance of logs delivered to our door each day at such a good price, this is one of the rare sites where you can have a campfire which really added to the experience. Whilst on the farm I expected an uneven ground to camp on but it was quite the opposite! Facilities/toilets were also cleaned regularly. There was also the option to visit the farm and have a tour which was very educational.
There are some good pubs near by as well as a clay pigeon shooting range, not too far from the Jurassic coast either. Overall a very enjoyable stay and would definitely return in a heartbeat. Thank you for making our trip a memorable one!!

Communication with the owners was great, right from booking we received emails and text messages including all the information we needed. Greeted us on arrival with some helpful tips and came round during our stay with some logs for a campfire.
