More woodland adventure than a site with a long list of facilities, Cat and Fiddle Campsite is set in a tree-sheltered field on a pick-your-own fruit, vegetable and flower farm with a shop and welcoming café. Just five minutes’ drive from Christchurch, it’s a back-to-basics spot around which you can discover all that is special about this leafy corner of Hampshire. Cat and Fiddle is not for you if you’re after late night and lots of organised activities. What you can expect is as follows: waking up to birdsong, local food and community events in the café and woodland walks directly from the pitches. You also have the chance to rustle up feasts on your barbecue – you can pick up goodies from the farm shop without having to leave the site. If you’re just not that into alfresco cooking, it’s handy that the on-site café is open for meals in the evening. Thirsty for a pint? Head for the clutch of pubs in the nearby village of Burton (five minutes). In addition, hiking and cycling routes lace the New Forest National Park (10 minutes’ drive, keep an eye open for deer and wild ponies grazing freely) and lack of light pollution means bright nights under the stars when conditions are right.

Liked Very basic but ideal of that all you need. But the showers were warm and working.

£25 a night is okay. I wouldn't pay more.

Liked Lots of space. Clean facilities.

Disliked Very bumpy. Unclear where to stand. It’s basically just a field with some toilet and shower stalls at the very beginning. Power cables overhead.

Liked Welcoming staff at farm shop, small friendly campsite, quiet campers, clean toilets, close to Christchurch.

Disliked Very uneven ground, 11KV power cables over camping area made it feel a little uncomfortable. Unfortunately the road noise is quite bad but can’t be helped due to location

Liked The food and service were great. Easy check in. We were the only people in the campsite

Disliked The ground is not suitable for camping at all. Unfortunately it means I cant give it a good review as this is pretty important!

Liked We loved being able to camp under the trees and have our car close. The toilets and showers were fit for purpose. A 9 minute car trip to Highcliffe bay and 25 minutes to Bournemouth pier.
