  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Another fabulous stay at Newlands. Staff are always so friendly and helpful. We had car troubles and had to take it to the garage same day which left us stuck as most things we left in car boot. They helped with charger and staying later than our check out time. We had both dinner and breakfast- delicious. Favourite was the blue cheese sauce. Facilities are brilliant!!! Everything is looked after so well.

Disliked: Nothing!!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Food was excellent far. Better than expected good choices and well prepared and served with a pleasing attitude and smile from sky Bus stop very handy Good swimming facilities Handy shop

Disliked: Bus was handy but no seats for hour long wait for buses for us older folk Across the road the grass and nettles were not even trimmed by anyone ! a small job to make it less dangerous only one person can tiptoe to one side when getting off from from bus Even five minutes courtesy with a strimmer would endear the people who want to use your site! Lack of modernisation to toilets to keep somewhere near the standard of the other facilities provided by other sites that we stayed with i.e. shower toilet and basin all in one cubicle if modernised to this standard it would enable you to have even more facilities so lack of investment shows lack of care Staff were not quick to take us to our site. We waited 3/4 of an hour in the car park for someone to come after we’ve been in the office and no number was allocated as it was forgot! Pitches were in many cases dangerous and wet and not adequate facilities to prevent mishaps or misjudgement when parking a bit tight on Room. It was too easy to run over the stabilising lines from peoples awning and their motorhomes design of access to these allocations need a lot to be desired. The lack of providing water tap to each pitch shows again lack of investment and organisation , as we have come here a number of years , and it is still shows lack of judgment on so many issues, ie why not have decent photos of the brilliant food you have to offer! To entice! And inform all catering staff what you have available and indicate how the care has been put into preparation! I made enquiries to staff what was on offer and was greeted with I don’t know. I will find out.

Liked: Great facilities, well maintained grounds including the dog walking field, spotless showers and toilets, great food and friendly staff. This is an excellent site with lovely views, bus stops literally just outside the main entrance and is within easy walking distance to Charmouth and the beach. Level pitches on good size plots.

Liked: The camp was very clean and tidy the pick was good almost flat the bar was great friendly staff and a good atmosphere but could do with live music as they have a captive audience with nowhere to go so was pretty empty apart from Friday night when they had bingo on not our thing but went for the fun

Disliked: Needs more entertainment in the bar Saturdays and Sundays

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
