If it's time for you to get away to the Jurassic Coast, you might want to know about Monkton Wyld Court. This Dorset countryside site is a 10-minute drive (or an hour's walk) from the coast – the closest spots being none other than Charmouth and Lyme Regis. What's it like at this simple site? The large 100-foot lawn overlooks a gorgeous valley and has plenty of space for children to play. There are simple facilities on site, including a hot shower, a couple of composting loos, a washing-up sink and a separate sink/tap where you can fill up your water bottles with tasty (and safe-to-drink) fresh spring water. The pitches are all flat and even, thanks in part to their past life as a grass tennis court. Barbecues can be set up here, and grub – grilled or otherwise – can be eaten on one of the site’s several handy picnic tables. A couple of small communal wooden buildings are also provided, alongside a firepit (worth noting for those darker hours). The surrounding inviting grounds have terraced lawns, woodlands, a stream, reedbeds and a Victorian walled garden. Monkton Wyld Court is a 30-minute stroll from a friendly local pub, and Charmouth, where there's a wide sandy beach and plenty of places to stock up on food, is a 10-minute drive away.

Liked So quiet and beautiful. The kids loved playing in the woods in their “dens”. There were facilities for camp fires.

Disliked Only one toilet outside available and one inside during daytime hours. Walking through the woods alone in the dark to use the loo wasn’t fun. Only one shower available and it was fiddly to use, normally it’s an Outside shower apparently, however it had broken so we were allowed to use the inside one. However Kept knocking it and scalding myself or freezing myself.

Liked Very peaceful spot. Good green facilities. Reception staff really helpful. Good location for Lyne Regis.

Disliked Didn’t seem to be a working light in the composting toilet or the camping kitchen

Liked We loved it here. Im so glad we found this place, as it was perfect for the children. It was simple, beautiful small relaxing quiet campsite.The staff were super amazing and very down to earth. I actually loved the outdoor toilet in the campsite. We had an amazing view of nature, and lots of birds singing in the morning. The shower in the court was great. Very clean and I loved the old building. One of the staff was so nice to us - that he let use there refrigerator to keep some of our food cool. There were 2 mini huts, which was perfect for cooking. And the best part was we were able to have a fire, as most campsites don't let you have one but Monkton wyld was a great place to camp if you don't want a busy, noisy, commercialised campsites - this is the place to go. We will definitely be coming back again. My children loved the climbing part in the shady trees, and just a simple old school swing and enough space to play ball kept them very happy. They also loved the chickens and the dogs.
