What customers say

This adult-only campsite is praised for its peaceful, natural setting with beautiful views and spacious, private pitches. Facilities are consistently described as clean and well-maintained, including hot showers and a communal fridge/freezer. Its location is ideal for exploring the Jurassic Coast. Some minor points raised include narrow access lanes and occasional maintenance needs in facilities.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked We both liked the small and quiet nature of the campsite.
The facilities were first class and the whole area around the kitchen and showers were kept very clean.

We would certainly recommend it to others we know.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked We didn’t end up staying so can’t really comment..it seemed like a lovely location

Disliked Felt so unwelcome & uncomfortable that we left within ten minutes of pitching…nothing to do with the owners of the site or the facilities but everything to do with a fellow camper on the opposite side of the field who complained about our exceptionally low music (country) within moments of us putting it on…approx 7pm…it was literally as low as it would go…coming from a 4 inch cube wi-fi speaker…not a ghetto blaster !!! She whined that she could hear it 🤯 well, we could hear their talking actually from the only dining table they had completely taken over…but I didn’t think for a minute to go over and ask them to shut-up !! Upon checking with the owners subsequently…they confirmed it is not a silent site and they DON’T have a NO MUSIC policy…we had intended to watch a film on a laptop in the evening in our tent but realising this would no doubt cause further conflict & spoil our stay…we left…very disappointed & upset. It was a very quiet, adult only site…that is why we chose it !!!! We felt we’d made a big mistake booking this site. We’d been driving all day & didn’t get home until 1am…absolutely exhausted…doing that seemed preferable to the hassle & selfishness we’d encountered…

From the manager: We are unsure why this review has been written a month after your stay. You have already been in touch with us immediately after your stay to say exactly the same to us privately and now in a public way. Our campsite is quiet but is not
a “silent” campsite and we don’t say anywhere about no music.

We encourage a site where noise is kept to a minimum so that all can appreciate the beautiful, quiet, natural space. We expect campers to respect each other and to deal with your own intolerances in a mutually respectful way between yourselves. Maybe you should have asked them to talk more quietly?

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful, scenic site
Peaceful
Fire pit in each pitch
Our pitch had a picnic table
Trees created nice seclusion for each pitch
Fridge freezer available
Electric available

Disliked No one on site if needed
Toilets and showers - full of cobwebs and spiders, they could do with a full on clean and touch up. I didn't realise how scared of spiders I was until I needed the toilet. Showers temperamental

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked There is nothing not to like about Hobby Farm! The layout is sensitive to privacy, is full of natural peace and beauty, and is a glorious retreat.
Such added extras and clean loos, showers and washing up area are appreciated, as are sockets for charging and a sizeable fridge/freezer to make camping easier.
The emphasis is clearly on quiet quality rather than numbers and overstretched areas.
Thank you so much Hobby Farm

Route directions

Coming along Blunts Road from Ryall, pass Hobby Farm (the equestrian stables) and look for the next turning on the right to find the site. It's better to use the Google Maps location for Hobby Farm Holidays to find the exact spot rather than using the postcode. If coming from the A303 and Crewkerne, after Bettiscombe, your satnav may suggest going down a bridleway to Mandeville Stoke Farm. Don't take this turning but carry straight on instead.

Local attractions

Book as much time as you can off work, as this area’s brimming with things to do. Quirky times can be had at Lyme Regis’ crazy golf course on the promenade, while boat trips are available from West Bay to see beaches from a watery vantage point. Meanwhile, museums like Dinosaurland Fossil (15 minutes' drive) will school you on what puts the Jurassic into the Jurassic Coast. For country houses with a twist, former Cistercian monastery Forde Abbey is a 20-minute drive or you can journey an hour into the countryside past Yeovil for Sherborne Castle. Car enthusiasts can have a gander at the Haynes Motor Museum near this 16th-century Tudor mansion, some 50 minutes from Hobby Farm. Back towards the coast, town times are top in Sidmouth, 40 minutes east by car, with its Regency houses, botanical gardens and donkey sanctuary. Heading in the other direction will take you to the Hardy Monument on Black Down within 35 minutes for views of the West Dorset Heritage Coast from way up high.
