Hincknowle Cider Apple Farm Camping: Plenty of space around the site

General

  • Grass pitches on a cider apple farm with spectacular West Dorset views
  • A 10-minute drive to Bridport; 15 minutes from West Bay beach
  • 190 acres of farmland to explore on site; pub 10 minutes’ walk away

Close to West Bay beach, the market town of Bridport and historic Beaminster, the pitches at Hincknowle Cider Apple Farm Camping are scattered over 190 acres of undulating farmland, ponds, orchards and woodland – and that means a whole lot of exceptional views over West Dorset and the Jurassic Coast.

The farm is home to many deer, badgers, foxes and various birds of prey – and as you’re free to roam, look out for buzzards, kestrels and owls. There is also livestock around: pigs, sheep and alpacas live here, so although well-behaved dogs are welcome, they must be kept on a lead.

Limiting the number of large mowed pitches means you have plenty of space and privacy on the site. They're off grid with little light so you can really appreciate the starry skies on clear nights (please that also means you'll need to bring torches for after-dark meanders).

A boon for days when the weather isn’t up to much, the restored barn has communal cooking gear along with a shared fridge to store food. Light the woodburner on cooler evenings, hang out with family and friends, play board games or table tennis… there are phone chargers in there too. Other amenities on site include outdoor showers with plenty of hot water and spotless separate toilets.

There is a pub in Melplash, 10 minutes’ walk away through the private orchards, and several footpaths begin from the village.

Please note

Bookings must not be for more than 7 consecutive nights.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

This was our second visit . Such a special place in beautiful surroundings but near enough to many attractions. The grounds alone offer some stunning walks and on site is an incredible barn with a well equipped kitchen area, log burner, darts board and table tennis table. This is available to all campers and is an amazing option for the wetter weather. We spent a stormy night in here with warmth, shelter and music and had ourselves a party!
What really makes this place are the hosts. Matt and Frida are so warm and welcoming and go above and beyond to ensure you have the best stay. The farm is already a favourite of ours and one we hope to return to many times.
Spacious and level pitches amongst nature - what's not to like! :-)

Well spaced pitches with stunning views of the local countryside. Great for stargazing. Wild camping experience with the luxury of toilet/shower/kitchen facilities (all very clean and well equipped). The converted barn was a great place to have breakfast and dinner. Lovely hosts who made us all feel very welcome and provided some great recommendations for places to visit. Chilled local bottled cider available to buy on site which was an added bonus. Had a great stay with our three year old who could roam freely across the site.

    This was truly magical.
The barn was something I have never seen on a tent only campsite, such a lovely spot to have a drink and play ping-pong. The pitches were lade out so it felt very private, and the walk around the woods and old orchard was truly spectacular. We were even joined by deer - magic!

Local attractions

If you’re camping with kids, chances are they’ll be keen to get to the beach. Indulge them with a day out at West Bay (15 minutes’ drive), where you can all go fishing, rookpooling and crabbing, or make like Kate Winslet and head to Charmouth (half an hour) to rootle around on the beach for fossils. Dog-friendly Hive Beach (20 minutes) is a clever option for long walks with your furry friends under the shelter of limestone cliffs.

The South West Coast Path (15 minutes) passes through the area if you fancy more challenging all-day hikes with impressive sea and sand views from soaring clifftops. The trail heads past lively Bridport (10 minutes); stop there a while to check out its antiques shops or take a high-speed RIB cruise to see the Jurassic Coast from the water.

Firmly back on land, take the kids to feed donkeys and wallabies at Vurlands Animal Farm (20 minutes), or spend the day getting up close to the Mute swan colony at Abbotsbury Swannery (35 minutes).
