Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great location, great pizza on site and fab coffee nearby. Staff all really friendly and helpful. Facilities good for what we needed. Good local connections when our car broke down and we needed taxis and buses! Great walks nearby and lovely locals and neighbours on site ☺️

Disliked: Washing up facilities and showers were quite far from big berries, but this wasn’t an issue that affected our enjoyment of the site but for bigger groups or families, it might be. 4/10 toilets on big berries were out of use, meaning we needed to queue at times but this didn’t affect our overall positive feeling about the site!

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Toilets are nice and clean, showers warm, there’s a Spa shop on the way to the beach (which is a ten minute walk). You can see the sea from the campsite.

Disliked: Bit of a gradient, not excessive but made things a little more difficult.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The proximity to the beach. The facilities were pretty good and also the pub and pizza place on the beach.

Disliked: Facilities were abit to far if sleeping on far side of field. Have toilets in the middle which was great but showers and washing up facilities bit of a walk, also very hilly site. Ashame you can't walk round the fishing lake without permit as my children would have loved to have a look as they enjoy nature. Need a good park for kids.

Big Berries non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: View from the field was amazing, clean toilet facilities and running water tap nearby, few nice hikes around, short walk to Seatown. Hastle free check in and quite safe area. Wifi wasn’t free, but we didn’t use it, enjoyed our time in nature.

Disliked: Showers were quite busy (only 4) and you would need to queue, and they were quite dirty, water was lukewarm. Campsite was on a slope, so quite uneven.

Local attractions

Start at Stonebarrow Hill for 25 miles’ worth of walking trails around Golden Cap, making sure to pause after you puff uphill for the views across Lyme Bay to Dartmoor. There’s a National Trust information point, shops and toilets in an old radar station on the hill to make a pitstop at before taking the trail through Langdon Hill Wood, taking the Smugglers’ Trail, or clambering cliffwards to see the ancient Thorncombe Beacon and views to Bridport and Chesil Beach, one of the biggest shingle stretches in the country. A walk east from the beacon will take you to the seaside village and coastal views of Eype, or you can wander west to the beach at Charmouth for more fossil hunting. Other recommended day trips from Golden Cap are Lyme Regis with crazy golf on top of the promenade, the fishing village of Beer which can be combined with a trip to Seaton or Sidmouth, and the miles of sandy beach at West Bay with boat trips. If you have little animal enthusiasts along on your trip, take them to hand-feed the 600 swans at Abbotsbury Swannery, or to get nautical at Weymouth Sea Life Park. For more grownup west Dorset attractions try Forde Abbey, Sherborne Castle or the Haynes Motor Museum… the kids might not mind these too much if you then take them to Dorchester’s award-winning Dinosaur Museum.
