General

  • Working farm with its own cider production
  • Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and views of the Jurassic Coast
  • Modern high-quality showers

A Dorset farm with its own cider production – and events? And with views of the fably viewsome Jurassic Coast and Bride Valley, close to beaches, the South West Coast Path, Bridport and Dorchester? You might fancy a pint or two of that, cheers.

All these rocking happenings are at relaxed and friendly Bredy Farm, a working farm with its own microbrewery and its own cider shed open to the public. It's set up for simple camping, for topping cider and for parties, at its occasional weekend long music events. (Please note that the site is adults only).

Guests pitch up in the Orchard part of the site, an apple orchard in a peaceful and scenic location alongside the River Bride. Facilities include running water, an area to wash pots and pans, two flushing toilets and two modern, high-quality coin operated showers.

During events, the campsite part of the farm moves to a space on the rim of a natural amphitheatre which houses the stage, bar, food van and coffee van. Composting toilets and mains water are set up here, but guests can also use the main facilities a two-minute stroll away.

Please note

A charge of £1 applies for the use of shower.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

During the events the campsite welcomes families with children. Please keep this in mind when booking.

If you are part of a group, please specify the lead name in the 'special requests' in the booking form.

Need to have more oversite of the campers conduct. 17/09/2017

    Great location
    Basic but clean facilities

    Disliked:

This site purports to be "peaceful and scenic location " from how it is marketed here, I am sure that 90% of the time it is "peaceful", i must concur with another posting here. I was kept awake for two nights until 4am by the behaviour of one group. I am afraid that given how this site is marketed the owners need to be a bit more hands on and deal with this sort of conduct. This particular group behaved like overgrown school children that had escaped from their mothers garden and gave no consideration to others who may have wanyed to get some sleep !!! Despite only having 4 small tents there were 14 cars in attendence.....a couple of which decided to race across the site at great speed. The noise could clearly be heard from the cider barn/managers house....however nothing was done about this alcohol fueled out of control conduct.

I came very close to calling the police.

While i appreciate the owners may wish to run a relaxed site there clearly needs to be some better oversite as other campers could be put at risk if this sort of behaviour was allowed to get totally out of control.

It was a superb location just a short drive from the beach. Very peaceful location. We were there when they had their Be Cider Seaside festival which was great. Field is simple but well maintained and everyone was super friendly.

    Disliked:

Bit of a walk from the field to the showers. Nothing else wrong though.

What a beautifull place , camping on grass we found is far better in wet weather than in woodland ( sadly we had quite a bit of rain) which can get very muddy . I loved the wildlife here..Owls at night and , bats , during the day butterflies and flocks of birds in the meadow area , sheep next to the Orchard so you also hear farm animals which is one thing I like being in the countryside , being next to a beautifull river with the river rushing was great and we even managed to spot some water voles There is very Little light pollution at night so it is also great for star gazing and in August it would be great for watching the yearly meteor showers of shooting stars on a clear night .

We found the facilities generally very good . The Showers were lovely and clean and hot ( coin operated £1 for 5 mins ) , flushing toilets x2 ( very clean ) with plenty of toilet paper . There is a Cider barn with cider by the pint produced on the farm , traditional Dorset scrumpy at its best . We were able to light a fire and relax at night and cook over it using our tripod . Bredy farm is a Great location for visiting the beautifull Dorset coast. West Bay beach is a short drive as is Bridport , Lyme Regis , Beer and Sidmouth , all have great beaches in the other direction Waymouth ( good shopping ) and Portland Bill .I would love to book when there is a music festival on to enjoy the live music . This site is highly recommended.

    Disliked:

This site caters for groups , on Saturday and Sunday night this involved lots of noise and disturbance from mainly one particular group who couldn't make more noise if they tried so 2 x sleepless nights out of four . We were just unlucky I think and I am told this is not the norm , and at the time I wasn't happy at all . However on reflection I remind myself that all groups campers are not the same, a couple of the other groups were very respectfull of their impact on other campers around them .I would definitely go back but next time email the owners in advance to check if any large groups have booked or pitch further away if possible and take my ear plugs just in case . Groups are advised to camp at the rear of the Orchard to avoid too much noise disturbance The advantages of Bredy Farm for us outweigh the disadvantages. My guess would be that midweek is a lot quieter than weekends.

The location was beautiful, staff were really friendly and accommodating. Nice quiet orchard with a river running next to it. Clean showers/toilets. The Festival was brilliant and very well organised.

    Disliked:

I wasn't too impressed that on 2 nights of our stay there were also children. It does say that on certain weekends families with children were welcome but we had children on the Sunday night and the Tuesday. Luckily they were very well behaved or it could've spoilt our trip away from our kids. Also there wasn't a reception or anyone to greet us on arrival, we'd never visited the area so a reception and local attraction/things to do information would've been helpful.

We had a lovely time at Bredy Farm, they made us so welcome and advised us on places to visit which would be suitable for me as I have limited mobility.
They were happy to immediately assist by adding a small temporary adaptation to the facilities to enable me to access and use them a lot easier.
We cannot fault them in any way + the Cider Barn and farm shop offer the most excellent produce at very good prices.
Cannot comment on WIFI as we were on holiday and don't take that sort of stuff with us.

The site is beautiful and very peaceful. You can tell that the owners have taken care and pride in creating a nice camping environment and not just opened up a field to make money. It wasn't cramped at all and the other users were quiet and respectful of everyone else's space. Love having fire pits.

    Disliked:

The outdoor toilets on the orchard site were a little neglected over the bank holiday weekend, perhaps due to the event going on in the other field? The showers also ran hot and cold so too risky to wash hair!

This canpsite/ cider farm was amazing!!!
Very friendly staff and the location was fantastic.
Dotted around the bank of the river on rhe camp site were man made fire pits with cut tree trunks for seats, the river in most parts was deep enough to swim in. The farm is located 1km from a great beach and also surrounded by really nice pubs and restaurants. They also allow you to bring your own BBQ and have fire pit areas around were you camp as well, which worked great for staying up late whilst keepibg warm. They don't over sell the area either which means your not vamping on top of each other. They also had a super festival on, even though we didn't go, we listen until about 10am and it sounded like they had some great bands on!! Would definately go again. Thanks Breedy Farm.

Local attractions

If you're here for an events weekend, stick around for a bit afterwards to investigate the area: take it as read that your boss will applaud your initiative.

Start off by going seawards: the nearest beach and the local stretch of Jurassic Coast are about a mile away in front of Bredy Farm's local village of Burton Bradstock, leading to the famed beach at Chesil. (The award-winning Hive restaurant dishes up seafood in Burton too.)

If it's Jurassic Coast fossils you're after, the nearby Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in Lyme Regis has piles of specimens in it collection of local Jurassic marine fossils, so meander along here to sea what you can sea. More fossily remains are in the Jurassic Coast gallery at nearby Bridport Museum.

Piles of other things are around Bredy Farm to see and do, such as the village of Abbotsbury and its swannery, full-size construction machinery driving at Diggerland Devon, seaside towns like Charmouth and Weymouth, and exploring old piles like Hardy's Cottage. If you're around to shop, local town Bridport has a vintage market on the last Sunday of every month.

You might also like to try more of the fizzy stuff if you're around Bredy Farm for a cider weekend, so totter off to a couple of the boozy attractions in the area, such as the tastings and tours of Bridport's Palmer Brewery, founded in 1794, and sampling the sparkling and still wines of Furleigh Estate Wines, producing Dorset wine from its base at Salway Ash.

Must see

  • Abbotsbury Swannery (5.5 miles)
  • Mapperton House & Gardens (6.0 miles)
  • Radipole Lake Nature Reserve (12.3 miles)
