Bredy Farm: Camper in the Orchard field

General

  • Traditional working farm with cider production and microbrewery
  • Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and views of the Jurassic Coast
  • Italian restaurant; tickets are extra for summer events and festivals

Fancy the sound of a Dorset farm with its own cider production and cosy restaurant – plus summer events (which you need to buy separate tickets for)? With views of the fably viewsome Jurassic Coast and Bride Valley, adults-only Bredy Farm is also close to beaches, the South West Coast Path, Bridport and Dorchester. You might fancy a pint or two of that, cheers.

All these happenings are on a relaxed and friendly working farm with its own microbrewery and cider shed open to the public. It's set up for simple camping, for excellent cider and for parties, at its occasional weekend-long music events (extra charge).

Guests pitch up in the Orchard part of the site, an apple orchard in a peaceful and scenic location alongside the River Bride. Facilities include running water, a basic cold water area to wash pots and pans, two flushing toilets and two modern, high-quality coin-operated showers.

Certainly not basic are the offerings at the farm's Italian restaurant/café, which serves up plates of tasty homemade food, including proper Neapolitan-style pizzas (it's rightly popular so it's best to book ahead, especially if you're travelling in a group).

In the summer months this is a site that's buzzing with energy and a bar that's open until 2am (although guests can pick from lively or quiet pitches). Out of season and midweek it's generally more chilled.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

A charge of £1.00 applies for the use of the shower.

During the events the site welcomes families with children. Please keep this in mind when booking.

If you are part of a group, please specify the lead name in the 'special requests' in the booking form.

Only food and drink purchased in the event area can be consumed in the event area. You are free to eat and drink your own food in the camping area.

On-site restaurant, the Parlour: advance bookings are necessary.

Wonderful country side site in an orchard.

People were enjoying themselves a little too late in the night (loud talking mostly). Not really an issue though and good to see people getting together after the covid.

Absolutely adored this campsite! I loved it's attention to caring for the planet and it's serenity. I was walking the coast path and this was a very welcome retreat to rest for the evening, but I was sad to only be able to stay for one evening. Perfect location for exploring Lyme Regis, Bridport, West Bay, Golden Cap and more of the Jurassic Coast. I will certainly be recommending this to friends and family and would love to come back to stay for longer.

Location amazing. The campsite has two fields and the Orchard is a much nicer field in my opinion.
Amazing walks from the campsite and even though we didn't drink at the bar or dine in the restaurant it had a lovely relaxed vibe with chilled music playing.

    Disliked:

Our stay was during the music festival which wasn't a problem at all. But sadly someone stole some of our camping gear which was a disappointment so I wouldn't go again during that time.

There are 2 hot showers on the Mead field and one was cold.
Staff did seem very relaxed (or super distracted by festival goings on down the road) and no welcome given on arrival.

    18+ Only,
Could just be in our spot and no one bothered us,
Campsite was up late and lively so we didn't need to worry about an early lights out (festival across the road was going on until past 02:00)
Restaurant food was incredible. We are a big group of pizza lovers and all agreed it was up there with the best we've ever had

    Disliked:

No washing up facilities in the Mead (that we could see)
Only two hot showers for the Campsite

Local attractions

If you're here for an events weekend, stick around for a bit afterwards to investigate the area: take it as read that your boss will applaud your initiative.

Start off by going seawards: the nearest beach and the local stretch of Jurassic Coast are about a mile away in front of Bredy Farm's local village of Burton Bradstock, leading to the famed Chesil Beach. (The award-winning Hive café dishes up seafood in Burton Bradstock too.)

If it's Jurassic Coast fossils you're after, the nearby Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in Lyme Regis has piles of specimens in its collection of local Jurassic marine fossils, so meander along here to see what you can sea. More fossily remains are in the Jurassic Coast gallery at nearby Bridport Museum.

Piles of other things are around Bredy Farm to see and do, such as the village of Abbotsbury and its swannery, full-size construction machinery driving at Diggerland Devon, seaside towns like Charmouth and Weymouth, and exploring old buildings like Hardy's Cottage. If you're around to shop, local town Bridport has a vintage market on the last Sunday of every month.

You might also like to try more of the fizzy stuff if you're around Bredy Farm for a cider weekend, so totter off to a couple of the boozy attractions in the area, such as the tastings and tours of Bridport's Palmer Brewery, founded in 1794, and sampling the sparkling and still wines of Furleigh Estate Wines, producing Dorset wine from its base at Salway Ash.

Must see

  • Abbotsbury Swannery (5.5 miles)
  • Mapperton House & Gardens (6.0 miles)
  • Radipole Lake Nature Reserve (12.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Max Gate (12.1 miles)
  • Hardy's Cottage (13.6 miles)
