General

  • Working farm with cider production, vineyards and micro brewery
  • Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and views of the Jurassic Coast
  • Live music festivals on occasional weekends

A Dorset farm with its own cider production – and events? And with views of the fably viewsome Jurassic Coast and Bride Valley, close to beaches, the South West Coast Path, Bridport and Dorchester? You might fancy a pint or two of that, cheers.

All these rocking happenings are at relaxed and friendly Bredy Farm, a working farm with its own microbrewery and its own cider shed open to the public. It's set up for simple camping, for topping cider and for parties, at its occasional weekend long music events. (Please note that the site is adults only).

Guests pitch up in the Orchard part of the site, an apple orchard in a peaceful and scenic location alongside the River Bride. Facilities include running water, an area to wash pots and pans, two flushing toilets and two modern, high-quality coin operated showers.

During events, the campsite part of the farm moves to a space on the rim of a natural amphitheatre which houses the stage, bar, food van and coffee van. Composting toilets and mains water are set up here, but guests can also use the main facilities a two-minute stroll away.

Please note

A charge of £1 applies for the use of shower.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

During the events the campsite welcomes families with children. Please keep this in mind when booking.

If you are part of a group, please specify the lead name in the 'special requests' in the booking form.

The pitches are set amongst apple trees, next to a river and the site is really idyllic and quiet. Friendly feel to site and the visits form Paddy the dog were lovely!

    Disliked:

Quite hard to find as the directions on website missed out a vital left hand turn which meant we travelled a further 2 miles down the road trying to find it!

The orchard setting was peaceful and informal yet very well maintained. The river bride ran behind our pitch and it was only a short walk to the facilities. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were able to help ourselves to a fire pit at no extra charge.

Absolutely beautiful, it was like going back in time but in a good way. Made to feel to welcome. The surroundings are just stunning and the location fabulous. Felt like we had stepped on to the set of Darling Buds of May :-) Our dog was relaxed which is great as at some campsites he's a bag of nerves. Just wish we had been able to stay longer but we will definitely be back.

The common sense camping approach. We weren't bothered by anyone, we could have fires and bbqs as and where we wanted within reason and there was a Cider bar on site. Large mix of different people, all united in common interest in having a beautiful place to chill for a few nights on a nice weekend

    Disliked:

Not that I hugely disliked them but the showers lacked pressure. They were clean enough and I was happy to pay £1 for 5 minutes, but they were a bit like being dribbled on by a baby. I guess they got the job done. No nonsense camping I guess!

Local attractions

If you're here for an events weekend, stick around for a bit afterwards to investigate the area: take it as read that your boss will applaud your initiative.

Start off by going seawards: the nearest beach and the local stretch of Jurassic Coast are about a mile away in front of Bredy Farm's local village of Burton Bradstock, leading to the famed beach at Chesil. (The award-winning Hive restaurant dishes up seafood in Burton too.)

If it's Jurassic Coast fossils you're after, the nearby Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in Lyme Regis has piles of specimens in it collection of local Jurassic marine fossils, so meander along here to sea what you can sea. More fossily remains are in the Jurassic Coast gallery at nearby Bridport Museum.

Piles of other things are around Bredy Farm to see and do, such as the village of Abbotsbury and its swannery, full-size construction machinery driving at Diggerland Devon, seaside towns like Charmouth and Weymouth, and exploring old piles like Hardy's Cottage. If you're around to shop, local town Bridport has a vintage market on the last Sunday of every month.

You might also like to try more of the fizzy stuff if you're around Bredy Farm for a cider weekend, so totter off to a couple of the boozy attractions in the area, such as the tastings and tours of Bridport's Palmer Brewery, founded in 1794, and sampling the sparkling and still wines of Furleigh Estate Wines, producing Dorset wine from its base at Salway Ash.

Must see

  • Abbotsbury Swannery (5.5 miles)
  • Mapperton House & Gardens (6.0 miles)
  • Radipole Lake Nature Reserve (12.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Max Gate (12.1 miles)
  • Hardy's Cottage (13.6 miles)
