Bredy Farm: Part of the view from the Events field

General

  • Traditional working farm with cider production and microbrewery
  • Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and views of the Jurassic Coast
  • Italian restaurant on site, plus weekend events/live music festivals

A Dorset farm with its own cider production, a cosy restaurant – and events? And with views of the fably viewsome Jurassic Coast and Bride Valley, close to beaches, the South West Coast Path, Bridport and Dorchester? You might fancy a pint or two of that, cheers.

All these rocking happenings are at relaxed and friendly Bredy Farm, a working farm with its own microbrewery and its own cider shed open to the public. It's set up for simple camping, for excellent cider and for parties, at its occasional weekend-long music events. (Please note that the site is adults only).

Guests pitch up in the Orchard part of the site, an apple orchard in a peaceful and scenic location alongside the River Bride. Facilities include running water, a basic cold water area to wash pots and pans, two flushing toilets and two modern, high-quality coin operated showers.

Certainly not basic are the offerings at the farm's Italian restaurant/café, which serves up plates of tasty homemade food including proper Neapolitan-style pizzas (it's rightly popular so it's best to book ahead, especially if you're travelling in a group).

During events, the campsite part of the farm moves to a space on the rim of a natural amphitheatre that houses the stage, bar, food van and coffee van. Composting toilets and mains water are set up here, but guests can also use the main facilities a two-minute stroll away.

In the summer months this is a site that's buzzing with energy and a bar that's open until 2am (although guests can pick from lively or quiet pitches). Out of season and midweek it's generally more chilled.

Please note

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

A charge of £1.00 applies for the use of the shower.

During the events the site welcomes families with children. Please keep this in mind when booking.

If you are part of a group, please specify the lead name in the 'special requests' in the booking form.

Cant say too much as a review as we visited and due to the weather and look of the fields decided to book somewhere else
The guy I can fault was very nice giving advice on best place for the van and even offered the other field up the road
After careful consideration and no plans we decided to stay elsewhere
lace looked beautiful and will pop back in better times
Didn't ask for refunds as wasn't anything owner could do with weather

What a lovely calm campsite. We really loved the stream running through the middle, the gentle sound mingling with the birdsong in early may. The weather was crazy but the valley stayed calm, sheltered from the gales.
The other campers were friendly and really considerate, a pleasure to be around. The facilities were simple but easy for the number of people there.
Great to have fire places and burners, so nice to warm up in the evening. And nice to have a dog friendly space.

    Disliked:

Showers were a bit too far away and not very inviting, simple onsite showers would have been welcome. Also missed sinks to wash up and wash from.

Local attractions

If you're here for an events weekend, stick around for a bit afterwards to investigate the area: take it as read that your boss will applaud your initiative.

Start off by going seawards: the nearest beach and the local stretch of Jurassic Coast are about a mile away in front of Bredy Farm's local village of Burton Bradstock, leading to the famed Chesil Beach. (The award-winning Hive restaurant dishes up seafood in Burton Bradstock too.)

If it's Jurassic Coast fossils you're after, the nearby Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in Lyme Regis has piles of specimens in its collection of local Jurassic marine fossils, so meander along here to see what you can sea. More fossily remains are in the Jurassic Coast gallery at nearby Bridport Museum.

Piles of other things are around Bredy Farm to see and do, such as the village of Abbotsbury and its swannery, full-size construction machinery driving at Diggerland Devon, seaside towns like Charmouth and Weymouth, and exploring old piles like Hardy's Cottage. If you're around to shop, local town Bridport has a vintage market on the last Sunday of every month.

You might also like to try more of the fizzy stuff if you're around Bredy Farm for a cider weekend, so totter off to a couple of the boozy attractions in the area, such as the tastings and tours of Bridport's Palmer Brewery, founded in 1794, and sampling the sparkling and still wines of Furleigh Estate Wines, producing Dorset wine from its base at Salway Ash.

Must see

  • Abbotsbury Swannery (5.5 miles)
  • Mapperton House & Gardens (6.0 miles)
  • Radipole Lake Nature Reserve (12.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Max Gate (12.1 miles)
  • Hardy's Cottage (13.6 miles)
