General

  • Working farm with cider production, vineyards and micro brewery
  • Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and views of the Jurassic Coast
  • Live music festivals on occasional weekends

A Dorset farm with its own cider production – and events? And with views of the fably viewsome Jurassic Coast and Bride Valley, close to beaches, the South West Coast Path, Bridport and Dorchester? You might fancy a pint or two of that, cheers.

All these rocking happenings are at relaxed and friendly Bredy Farm, a working farm with its own microbrewery and its own cider shed open to the public. It's set up for simple camping, for topping cider and for parties, at its occasional weekend-long music events. (Please note that the site is adults only).

Guests pitch up in the Orchard part of the site, an apple orchard in a peaceful and scenic location alongside the River Bride. Facilities include running water, a basic cold water area to wash pots and pans, two flushing toilets and two modern, high-quality coin operated showers.

During events, the campsite part of the farm moves to a space on the rim of a natural amphitheatre that houses the stage, bar, food van and coffee van. Composting toilets and mains water are set up here, but guests can also use the main facilities a two-minute stroll away.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

A charge of £1.00 applies for the use of the shower.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

This is an adults-only site. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed on site.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

During the events the campsite welcomes families with children. Please keep this in mind when booking.

If you are part of a group, please specify the lead name in the 'special requests' in the booking form.

A beautiful setting right next to a babbling brook. It's peaceful and just the right level of development (ie not too much). It feels very rural but is well looked after. A fascinating place with lots of beautiful buildings and old sawmill machinery in nearby barns. Good attention to detail, campfires allowed. I loved it.
Also very convenient for the beach but really peaceful.

Really laid back owners, pitch where you like and don’t make loads of noise seems to be the general idea. It’s a beautiful setting in an orchard with a stream, the on-site cider bar is fabulous and they do great Italian food (at the weekends?). Dog’s are ok off the lead and fires are allowed. Don’t come here if you’re expecting top of the range toilets and showers, though....this site has more of a rustic feel to it, but that’s what I prefer.

    Disliked:

The idiots who thought it was okay to take branches from the woods to burn, even though there were polite signs warning them not to as it damages the environment.

Local attractions

If you're here for an events weekend, stick around for a bit afterwards to investigate the area: take it as read that your boss will applaud your initiative.

Start off by going seawards: the nearest beach and the local stretch of Jurassic Coast are about a mile away in front of Bredy Farm's local village of Burton Bradstock, leading to the famed Chesil Beach. (The award-winning Hive restaurant dishes up seafood in Burton Bradstock too.)

If it's Jurassic Coast fossils you're after, the nearby Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in Lyme Regis has piles of specimens in its collection of local Jurassic marine fossils, so meander along here to see what you can sea. More fossily remains are in the Jurassic Coast gallery at nearby Bridport Museum.

Piles of other things are around Bredy Farm to see and do, such as the village of Abbotsbury and its swannery, full-size construction machinery driving at Diggerland Devon, seaside towns like Charmouth and Weymouth, and exploring old piles like Hardy's Cottage. If you're around to shop, local town Bridport has a vintage market on the last Sunday of every month.

You might also like to try more of the fizzy stuff if you're around Bredy Farm for a cider weekend, so totter off to a couple of the boozy attractions in the area, such as the tastings and tours of Bridport's Palmer Brewery, founded in 1794, and sampling the sparkling and still wines of Furleigh Estate Wines, producing Dorset wine from its base at Salway Ash.

Must see

  • Abbotsbury Swannery (5.5 miles)
  • Mapperton House & Gardens (6.0 miles)
  • Radipole Lake Nature Reserve (12.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Max Gate (12.1 miles)
  • Hardy's Cottage (13.6 miles)
