  • Peaceful, dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Walking distance from reservoirs; a 25-minute drive to Fingle Bridge
  • Ex-army mess tent for dining and relaxing; natural firepit area
Wild swimming, cycling, hiking or horse riding down lush Devon lanes… the wild and windswept Dartmoor National Park is where you’ll find Beech Tree Farm. At this peaceful site you’ll all have the run of a flat farm meadow with an adjoining copse of mature trees. There's plenty of space to go around too, and it's all centred around a natural firepit area and a large vintage army mess tent space for chilling out and cooking. The other facilities on site have a nice touch too – and that includes a railway carriage conversion with two loos, two hot water showers rooms, a mobile phone charging point and running water for dishwashing, drinking and cooking. Very well-behaved dogs are welcome (the usual doggy rules apply and bins are provided), as are children (there’s a huge area for them to run around). There is livestock on the farm, so guests are asked to be mindful (stag or hen parties are not permitted for this reason). The way here is quite hidden and you’ll pass Blackingstone Tor on your way. But you won’t be too far away from Moretonhampstead (10 minutes’ drive), where there are all the usual amenities including pubs, restaurants, cafés and takeaways, plus a supermarket, butcher, greengrocer and zero shop, all with locally-sourced food.

What customers say

This peaceful, secluded campsite offers spacious, flat pitches in a beautiful rural location on the edge of Dartmoor. Visitors praised the exceptional cleanliness of the facilities, including the showers and toilets, and the availability of hot water. A large communal tent for use in bad weather was a popular feature. Owners are frequently described as friendly and helpful. While basic, the site provides a comfortable and quiet getaway. A slightly larger entrance sign could be beneficial.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Large open and mostly flat pitch with well mowed grass. A large mess tent for use if weather turns nasty. Flushing loos and large sink to wash up in. The showers were very good and roomy and hot water is sufficient dependant on sunshine as it is solar power.
The hosts are friendly and helpful.
Quite secluded and peaceful spot on the Eastern side of Dartmoor only a very short drive from Moretonhampstead.
I can recommend the Union Inn for food.
Basic camping without all the noises of a big campsite but enough to make it comfortable.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Jenny and John are very friendly! They helped us a lot. Our car burned down after pitching up. They lent us the spare bedroom in their house, gave us a lift to a restaurant and back and even gave us a lift to the train station.

Disliked We hadn’t had the time to fully enjoy the campsite as our stay was cut short.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Heel veel ruimte en natuur in een prachtige omgeving. Fijne plek voor kampeerders die van basic houden. We like! Heerlijke tijd gehad (4 nachten). Wij verbleven in de ‘boomgaard’. Ideale plek voor hangmat en een kampvuurtje. Dank aan de aardige eigenaren voor hun gastvrijheid.

Disliked Didn't have warm water at wash up but filled our kettle to do it fine.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked There are only 2 showers and 2 toilets at this site, but they are excellent. Clean, plumbed toilets and hot showers. There’s one big open field with lots of flat ground and one wooded field suitable for tents. Lots of nice walks nearby, some very narrow lanes if you’re in a campervan! We had a great weekend, we almost had the place to ourselves and the big mess tent was very handy when it rained.
