  • Welcoming site on an alpaca farm in south Devon
  • Totnes five minutes’ drive; Dartmoor and South Hams beaches 20 minutes
  • Alpaca treks; five minutes’ walk to the pub
If you’ve always longed to get close to alpacas, here’s your chance. The animals at Gatcombe Park Farm Glamping, in the South Hams village of Littlehempston, are as friendly as they come, and most of them will come and say hello. If you really want to get to know them, you can book an alpaca trek on arrival. The accommodation options at Gatcombe Park Farm Glamping are a short walk away from a landscaped pond, where you're welcome to chill out with a drink and watch the alpacas grazing peacefully in neighbouring paddocks. The site is located in a pretty village location, within five minutes’ walking distance of two pubs (one in the village and the other a little further away through the lanes and woodland), while Totnes (five minutes’ drive) has a choice of cafés, pubs and restaurants as well as all the shops you need to keep stocked up on essential supplies.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, well-maintained campsite with lovely countryside views, a key feature being the resident alpacas. Guests appreciate the friendly hosts and the clean, well-equipped kitchen and bathroom facilities, with some describing the bathroom as luxurious. The site is conveniently located for exploring Totnes and local pubs. Occasional issues noted include road noise and a limited number of showers and toilets during busy periods. Some guests found the pricing high for a basic site.

Liked Wonderful place, clean, well maintained, responsive host. You can buy free range eggs. Animals are just lovely. Kettle available. You can hear the road but it’s in a far distance and it was very quiet at night. We came for one night and sat by the pond at night on the swing in an awe of the dark sky stars. Gem of a place. Would return.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (adults only)

Liked Absolutely fantastic facilities - the kitchen has a kettle, hob, fridge and freezer as well as a seated area which is great for rainy weather or when short on camping gas! The bathroom facilities were great and always clean. And the site was very calm and relaxing with a pond, alpacas and nice views.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (adults only)

Liked Really well-designed, clean and well maintained with animals and pond area too. The cute outdoor kitchen with cooking rings, kettle, sink, fridge and table was really handy for snacks and shelter. Spaceous luxury camping bathroom! Handy to have the old back road to walk/cycle into Totnes instead of the main road. Friendly environment and hosts.

Liked Excellent cosy site, fab shower room. Nice little touch I thought was that there was milk, tea and coffee to use in the kitchen area. Also a sheltered dinning table to sit around.

Liked We had a wonderful stay at Gatcombe. The hosts was incredibly friendly and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The animals were absolutely charming and added so much character to the site.
The wet room was clean, and the hot shower was exactly what we needed after a day out – it was lovely! We also visited the Tally Ho pub nearby, and it was a fantastic experience. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere was lovely.
Overall, a peaceful, friendly campsite in a great location. We'd definitely recommend it and would happily stay again.

Local attractions

Once you’ve managed to drag yourselves away from the alpacas, get the walking shoes on and explore the many footpaths accessed from site. For more serious yomps across moorland to rocky tors, head to Dartmoor National Park (20 minutes’ drive to Buckfastleigh), where you can also spot wild ponies roaming free. Alternatively, turn east to the Devon coast. Paignton (20 minutes) has a sandy beach, a promenade and traditional pier, and if you’re after something more secluded, St Mary’s Bay is an often-almost deserted cove reached by steps down the cliffside. From there, you can walk to the landmark Berry Head Lighthouse in Berry Head National Nature Reserve (20 minutes’ walk). The high street in historic Totnes (five minutes’ drive) is full of small independent shops and art galleries, but the town is at its liveliest on Friday and Sunday, when street markets offer local foods and ciders, artisan crafts and antiques. Dartmouth (half an hour) has a lively waterfront and watersports along the River Dart, and sailing-mad Salcombe (40 minutes) has spectacular views of the Kingsbridge estuary. Brixham (25 minutes) is known for its lively fishing harbour and choice of seafood restaurants.
