  • Walk to Hartland Abbey, Hartland village and the South West Coast Path
  • Woodburning stove, outdoor firepit and kitchen facilities provided
Dashing off to Devon's Hartland Peninsula for wild coastal walks and peaceful countryside? The lush landscapes are in full view at Quincecote. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and just 45 minutes’ walk away from a stretch of the South West Coast Path that's known for its tough climbs and rewarding views (of rocky cliffs, wild coves and that kind of good stuff), this bespoke shepherd’s hut is very well situated. The shepherd’s hut is in a peaceful garden setting and it doesn’t hold back on mod cons. Blast some feelgood tunes on Bluetooth radio speakers and then set about concocting a tasty breakfast or dinner using the kitchen (which has a fridge, toaster, gas hob, kettle and sink). A fold-down table is provided, and there’s a cosy woodburning stove with a supply of wood and an outdoor firepit to set the mood. The double bed is foldable too, to give you extra floor space. With an integrated bathroom equipped with a large shower, the hut should be rather comfy indeed. Solar panels help to offset your carbon footprint and sea views are a reminder of the nearby coast. When you’re not busy tracking down cliffs and coves, set off through the fields and woods to Hartland village for a coffee or pub grub – it's only a 10-minute walk away. Hartland Abbey is 35 minutes’ walk away from the hut too, and it has parklands full of peacocks and donkeys and peaceful woodland walks.

Local attractions

Walk the entire length of the Hartland Peninsula’s coastal path and you'll soon happen upon Hartland Quay (10 minutes’ drive), a former harbour with rugged cliffs, rockpools and a museum that doles out the gossip on the quay’s smuggling history. Hartland Point (10 minutes) is another point on the route. At 99 metres above the sea, the headland has excellent views over the peninsula’s cliffs. It’s next to the helicopter pad which has departures to Lundy Island, where seals, puffins and walking trails are the hot attractions. Get a tick-list of things to visit nearby sorted perhaps… good inclusions might be the stunning Speke's Mill Mouth Waterfall (10 minutes) surrounded by valleys and cliffs, the ancient fishing village of Clovelly (15 minutes) and all the hiking spots between Welcombe (25 minutes) and Clovelly. Down south, there are historic Cornish villages like Boscastle (55 minutes) and its ravine, port and witchcraft museum or Tintagel (an hour) and its clifftop castle. Bude (35 minutes) has heaps of surfing beaches, including nearby Sandymouth Bay Beach (half an hour).
