Higher Seawardstone Farm: Fantastic views, huge field for the kids to run around in.

General

  • Five-acre farm site with quiet, level-grounded dog-friendly pitches
  • A 15-minute drive from the coast; 20 minutes to Dartmoor National Park
  • Pub, small food shop and footpaths nearby

Surfing up your street? Perhaps you have a flame for sailing, canoeing or coastal paths? A 15-minute drive away from the Devon coast and 20 minutes from Dartmoor National Park, Higher Seawardstone Farm is well-situated for making the most of the surf and sand, as well as hiking past Dartmoor’s ponies and river valleys, depending on which way you choose to go.

Between Totnes and Kingsbridge or Dartmouth and Dartmoor, the pitches are in a peaceful pocket of the countryside on a five-acre farm with no road noise. The site is level-grounded and looks out over the countryside and sea, meaning you’ll be waking up to some rather splendid scenery.

Dogs are welcome here, so it’s a good job that you’ll be surrounded by such quiet rural surroundings. There are many dog walks and footpaths surrounding the site. If kids want to bring their own games, a five-acre field is at their disposal. Other handy bits nearby include a small food shop and local pubs, a few minutes' drive from base.

Those of you who worked up a good sweat on the footpaths or beaches will be particularly happy to find the site has an amenities block with showers and toilets. Aside from that, facilities on site include drinking water and a chemical disposal point. While there is no wifi at Higher Seawardstone Farm, there is good mobile internet coverage.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Electric hook up was an home bargains extension reel in a blue plastic bag 😂 that was the start.Toilets & shower facilities would have been good in the year1970. Shower curtain absolutely disgusting. Chemical waste that I was fortunate enough not to have to use was a toilet next to a bench thing that you are supposed to be a washing area? Name of camp site the size of a postage stamp hidden under a bush. Industrial entrance gate that you open & close pain, could do with some wd40

From the manager...

Hi Thomas Lawrinson
Thanks for you attempt at leaving a review
We do have 15 16 amp hookup points on site but unfortunately yours was unavailable due to an issue with the trip which left us with the option of cancelling your booking the day before your arrival or providing you with an alternative pitch and power supply , the supply was PAT tested and in date

( not sure what home bargains is but possibly where you acquired your tent/ accommodation 2/10 )

The gate is closed for the safety of children on site which is important to both ourselves and parents

The shower curtains were new and we understand if they weren’t to your taste ,

We’re not sure if it’s the length of time between your stay and leaving your review or due to it being nearly midnight when you did that clouded your memory but the disposal point is at the opposite end of the field from the washing station ?

The farm sign has to be small in the south Hams due to restrictions

Your right about the stars though and the views, sure beats the drone of the M62 hey 😉

Thanks Martin & Stacey

Very quiet and out of the way campsite. Lots of site, not many camps, so perfect!
Basic facilities - two toilets and two showers plus an outside sink - but we didn't need any more.

    Disliked:

We booked partly on the basis that there were two pubs within walking distance of the campsite. That was true, although one only opened in the evening and the other kept somewhat erratic hours. So assuming you might like a glass of wine or pint of beer with dinner, best plan on cooking your own evening meals on the campsite rather than drive further afield.

Local attractions

Make your way over the clifftops by following the South West Coast Path (15 minutes’ drive) and plan in plenty of pitstops for Cornish cream teas as you pass by the towns. There are plenty of coastal locations that will break up any hike or coastal drive with watersports or boat trips, such as Blackpool Sands (15 minutes) or Dartmouth (20 minutes).

While you’re in Dartmouth, you’ll get to tick off Dartmouth Castle. Walk in the footsteps of former soldiers and Victorian workers as you explore the battery passageways and the gun tower.

But where else must you tick off your Devon bucket list? Paignton (half an hour) has beaches, a pier, a geopark and the Paignton Zoo Environmental Park (half an hour). Dartmoor National Park (20 minutes) has gorgeous landscapes and hikes galore, of course, including the Dartmoor Way heritage trail.

Then, there’s the family-friendly theme park at Woodlands Leisure Park (10 minutes) or the National Trust’s Overbeck's (half an hour), which was once the home of inventor Otto Overbeck, left to visit too - and they're both well worth the visit.

Must see

  • Paignton Zoo Environmental Park (7.9 miles)
  • Buckfast Abbey (10.1 miles)
  • Living Coasts (11.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Greenway (6.2 miles)
  • Coleton Fishacre (7.9 miles)
