  • South Molton and Cobbaton Combat Collection both 15 minutes’ drive
  • Exclusive-use hot tubs, two swimming pools and a choice of dining
Countryside views, fine dining on tap, indoor and outdoor pools, and a whole raft of activities for all the family. What more could you want from a North Devon stay? Perhaps a smartly kitted-out lodge with a private balcony and hot tub? If you’re looking for all that, you’ve found it at The Mole Resort, 15 minutes’ drive from the pretty market town of South Molton. Ideal for a romantic getaway or a fun-filled family holiday, the resort’s dog-friendly, eco-conscious lodges are tucked into 125 acres of greenery. Each ultra-comfortable unit has its own stylish kitchen, an open-plan living and dining space, light-filled bedrooms and ensuites with both bath and a shower. You can chill in the aforementioned hot tub while enjoying views over the Mole Valley, or get everyone organised for a day of archery, disc golf, axe throwing, tennis, croquet… the list goes on. Swim in the indoor or outdoor (summer only) pools, play the nine-hole golf course, let the kids loose building dens in the woodland, join a yoga session. You get the picture – there are more than 40 on-site activities to get your teeth into. If you fancy a night off from the cooker, hotfoot it over to the historic manor house to enjoy locally sourced produce in the fine-dining restaurant and bistro, or sink a couple of beers in the bar (the latter open Friday and Saturday evenings).

Local attractions

Should you ever run out of things to do on site, rest assured there is plenty going on locally. Have a potter into South Molton (15 minutes’ drive) to get a taster of local life at South Molton Museum, or browse handmade jewellery and wicker baskets at the Pannier Market, where you can also sample local cider and cheeses. There’s more regional produce to be sourced at Quince Honey Farm (20 minutes), where you can watch busy bees going about their business and pick up a jar of flavoured honey to take home with you. Or how about combining a tour of topiary and sculptures in the gardens at Castle Hill Estate (also 20 minutes) with a Devon cream-tea treat in the café? When it comes to entertaining your youngsters, most kids will adore the displays of weaponry, tanks and army jeeps at Cobbaton Combat Collection (15 minutes), and for an afternoon of family fun in the clear Devon air, you could try trekking with friendly, furry beasties at Watertown Llamas (an hour).
