On the hunt for pastoral prettiness, a proper pub and a pleasant (indoor) pool? This family-friendly site, Blackcock Inn Caravan and Campsite (formally Yeo Valley Holiday Park) in Molland, in a valley just south of the Exmoor National Park, has its own traditional inn, complete with log fires, beams and real ales and ciders, plus affordable pub grub seven days a week (lunchtimes and evenings; breakfast can be arranged too, if booked in advance). With the top-notch food on your doorstep, why not enjoy all the home comforts in one of the site’s two-bedroom caravans complete with kitchen, ensuite bathroom and comfortable living area? Both hardstanding and grassy pitches are also available where you can take in the lovely landscape of north Devon, and facilities include a children’s garden and playground area, games room, nature walks and a shop nearby, and mountain bike hire. Children (and we’re sure big kids too) will enjoy burning off some steam in the heated indoor pool (a small charge applies) while well-trained pooches are also welcome with camping, touring and motorhome guests - there’s even a dedicated dog walking area.

Local attractions

There’s plenty to do nearby for all ages and in all weathers: big and bouncy theme parks such as the Milky Way and Crealy Great Adventure Parks, wonderfully eccentric sheep racing and animal antics at The Big Sheep, plus zoos, farm parks, museums and historic houses and gardens. Ambitious anglers will find the 30-acre Oaktree Fishery just up the road; nature lovers can discover the romantic beauty of Lorna Doone country (Exmoor is accessible both on foot or by car), and beach boys and girls can reach glorious Devon beaches packed with things to do in less than 45 minutes by car. Cute and cobbly Clovelly - a ridiculously pretty fishing village - is definitely worth a visit.
