As Devon locations go, this one is a real winner – Putts Corner Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is within the East Devon National Landscape (so it’s got very scenic surroundings), close to the A375 (so it’s easy to drive to) and only about 10 minutes’ drive from Honiton (so it’s easy to get into town for shopping and eating). And on top of all that, it’s also a quick 15-minute drive to Sidmouth, giving you easy access to the Jurassic Coast too… This site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and it’s open to non-members as well as members, with discounted rates for members. The price displayed is the member rate; non-members will need to pay the £15/night extra or buy a £69 membership. Membership is worth considering if you’re likely to spend more than four nights at a Club site over the coming year – it brings discounts at more than 140 UK sites, plus other perks including access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. The well-kept pitches here are surrounded by quiet woodland and wildflowers (it’s particularly pretty during the spring bluebell season and when the foxgloves bloom in summer), and you may well spot birds or wild deer while you’re on site or roaming along footpaths. One handy path leads from the site to the village of Gittisham – or you could walk to the pub 200 metres away… Facilities on site include a launderette, a chemical disposal point, accessible bathrooms, a shop and an information room, along with a dog park and play area.

Occupancy

  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Pitches

  • A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Vehicles

  • Units longer than 9 metres are not allowed.
  • If you choose the membership option, your membership details will be issued within five working days once the booking is fully paid. A 14-day cooling-off period from the booking date allows for cancellation of the membership and a refund of any fees paid.

Route directions

Please only use the recommended directions below for the final approach and not sat nav, due to alternative routes being unsuitable for towing. In particular, avoid approaching from Ottery St Mary (which has a 1 in 5 gradient uphill) and on the A373 from junction 28 of the M5. Recommended route: turn off the A30 Honiton Bypass (dual carriageway) from the east into the road signposted Sidmouth A375, then turn left, signposted Honiton A375 (Turks Head Junction ). At the mini roundabout turn left and follow signs for A375 (signposted Sidmouth). After 320 metres, at the next mini roundabout turn right onto the A375 (signposted Sidmouth). In about 2.5 miles turn right just before the Hare and Hounds Inn into the road signposted Ottery St Mary. In about 0.25 mile turn right into site entrance. Late arrivals are asked to use the late arrivals parking.

Local attractions

You’ll probably head up to Honiton (10 minutes’ drive) at some point for a supermarket run, but don’t limit yourselves to just that – this attractive Georgian town is worth spending a bit of time in, popping in to one of its museums (Allhallows Museum and the Thelma Hulbert Gallery), pottering in the speciality shops and browsing the market (held on Tuesdays and Saturdays). For a bigger city to explore, get over to Exeter (half an hour) to visit its cathedral and gardens, get arty at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum or venture underground for a tour of its tunnels. There are also some lovely canalside walks and bike rides. Turning to the coast, you may like to stroll through Sidmouth (15 minutes), perhaps stopping at the Donkey Sanctuary en route to the town, go fossil hunting in Lyme Regis (25 minutes) or have a seaside walk from Branscombe (15 minutes) to Beer, with a diversion to the Beer Quarry Caves.
