General
- Luxury fully-equipped log cabin overlooking the South Hams
- Close to several beaches and 15 minutes from Dartmoor
- Observatory, one-acre lawn and barbecue
You might figure you could live here all year round... Yealm Cabin is a log cabin overlooking the Yealm valley in the spectacular South Hams, minutes from beaches, and fully equipped with all you need for a self-catering holiday lasting several months. It even accepts up to five dogs per stay (bring a blankie if you’re letting them up on the furniture), so no excuse for not going out for walkies all around: Dartmoor is just 15 minutes away.
You might want to stick around for a bit too for some starry gazing: Yealm Cabin is in an area of no light pollution and has its own observatory where guests can book an appointment to sky gaze with a local astronomy expert. (That’s what you call astronomically good service.)
The observatory is on the site’s one-acre lawn for the kids to cartwheel around at, among the tables and chairs for the more Siriusly-minded grownups to soak up the sun, as well as a barbecue for alfresco cooking. Cosmic.
Yealm Cabin has an open plan dining and living room so you can drink in the hill and field views along with your morning coffee or evening wine. A shower, toilet and wash area are a few steps away from the main bedroom through a private courtyard.
Wander along the lane through woodland to get to Yealmpton five minutes away (bring your wellies), a restaurant and a couple of friendly pubs serving food. There are also several shops and a farm shop, to pick up ingredients for a late Devon cream tea or barbecue back at base under the stars.

Local attractions
In the South Hams, a few miles from south Devon beaches and about seven miles from Plymouth, Yealm Cabin is a stellar spot for Devon-based sightseeing, watersports, village hopping, city slicking, antique hunting, sauntering along the South West Coast Path and several holidays’ worth more. With several holidays’ worth of cream teas, freshly caught fish and pints of trad Devon ale along the way, of course…
Miles of country paths start from the doorstep of the Yealm Cabin site along the River Erme, where fisherfolk hang out too to land salmon and trout. The South West Coast Path’s 630 miles meander around these parts too: drive to Plymouth and take the Waterfront Walkway to Wembury Point, or have an easy access walk across Bolberry Down or from Start Point, both near Salcombe.
Beaches are a few minutes’ drive from Yealm Cabin: the closest in Mothercombe three miles away where Sense and Sensibility was filmed (Jane fans can detour to see nearby Saltram House, the Georgian mansion sensibly used in the film too).
